Your massage does not start when my hands first meet your body on the table or mat. And your muscles are not the only things that I'm listening to. Here are some things that I'm quietly noticing that you might not be aware of:

1. Your breath: your breath is key in learning where your nervous system is at and how much you've been carrying lately. Shallow, quick breaths tell me that you've had a lot on your plate lately. You might need a little extra help getting into your body or letting go that day.

2. Your movement patterns: I ask everyone to take off their shoes before coming back into the treatment room. This is of course to help maintain cleanliness, but it also gives me a chance to see your gait pattern, notice if you are favoring any areas of your body, see if there is any immediate lack in range of motion as you reach for your shoe.

3. Held tension: not all pain and tension comes from muscle injury. There could be places where you're holding on to worry or grief or excitement and it's showing up in the body. I shift the work accordingly, to give that area the input it needs in that moment.

Your nervous system needs to feel safe to let go of pain, tension and allow more movement to be introduced. You should feel comfortable in a non-judgmental space.

The muscles of the outer hip do a lot of heavy lifting. The gluteal group is in charge of moving the leg actually in every direction. Poor movement in this area can lead to pain in the lower back as well as what feels like sciatica down the leg. It can even impair your gait and lead to compensation when walking!

These are big, powerful muscles that need the right input to let go. Enter: feet. Broad, deep pressure with a toe coming in for specific release. On video it looks so simple, but this move is the crΓ©me de la crΓ©me.

I'm just gonna say it - I hate AI. It harms our planet, our minds, and our communities. I've noticed a huge influx of AI designed event flyers and posts recently, and I want to reassure you all that I won't be jumping on the bandwagon. Every post on my socials are made by me personally. I write my own captions. I design my own flyers. And when I can't make something myself, like my logo, I hire a human to help.

Supporting your local community, supporting the health of the Earth, supporting the future of our kids, sometimes it means taking the time to do things the hard way. I'll keep doing it the hard way. And if sometimes my posts are a little funky or worded weird, it's not a fake brain guzzling drinking water who did it. It's me, and I run on coffee instead 🀣❀️

Booking in advance has its perks, like having the most convenient time in your month already set with the bodywork you need 🧘🏻

When you book before leaving the studio, you take care of future you. You're going to keep moving your body, catching up on yard work, going on an adventurous hike, playing your favorite sport, going a little too hard in yoga, and maintaining your day job. You might need another massage to help you recover, rest and move better πŸ‘€ and unfortunately I don't always have same week availability.

Another review from a happy client!

Here is something I've learned with years of experience: cupping is not a contraindication for people with fibromyalgia.

When I did my initial training many years ago, I learned that cupping can flare up fibromyalgia as cupping can pull deep into layers of fascia and muscle. However, within two weeks of completing my training I had someone on my table who had been receiving cupping in her massage to combat fibro pain.

We used lighter pressure cups, added stretches and movement, and followed up with a muscle balm to soothe. She felt great. I was confused.

Over the years I've worked with many people with fibromyalgia. Where I do agree that an aggressive, deep tissue approach is not the way to go for these clients, I also don't believe that just light pressure is the way to go either.

Coat hanger pain responds SO well to cupping and heat. Cupping can be applied in a therapeutically relaxing way that feels good and actually helps.
