Business as Usual in Albany: Upstate Pays the Price
Once again, last-minute lobbying efforts are pushing policies that benefit New York City while leaving Upstate communities behind. Under the proposed Medicaid funding formula, counties across Central New York, Western New York, and the Southern Tier would lose critical resources while billions continue to flow downstate.
Funding reductions threaten the stability of nursing homes that serve as major employers, healthcare providers, and community anchors throughout New York. At a time when nursing homes continue to face workforce shortages, rising costs, and growing care needs, Upstate communities deserve fair and equitable investment—not another funding cut disguised as reform.
Nursing homes caring for our seniors shouldn't be collateral damage in Albany's eleventh-hour negotiations.
