This list isn’t all inclusive, but it’s some of the big ones 🕊️
1. For me, repairing my relationship with the earth started by working with animals. I wanted to play outside again. I wanted to remember why I felt so good as a kid outside running through the Pennsylvania forests. I took a job as a ranch hand, and remembered how to get dirty. This morphed into more movement, more exposure to the local climate, and more interaction with the land I live on.
2. I threw away a lifestyle that kept me indoors. I learned about the importance of getting sunlight in my eyes and on my skin. I started sunbathing. I started watching the sunrise and sunsets to help my body reset its circadian rhythm. This reminded me that I am NOT separate from the cycles of the earth I inhabit and the planets that support our existence.
3. I became an expert at something. I began to study anatomy, physiology, circadian biology, quantum physics, and eastern philosophy. I operated a very successful Massage Therapy practice through the ups and downs of Lyme disease. Having my hands on people taught me almost everything I know. I learned to speak the language of the body that is not understood with voice alone.
4. I wrote down on paper “I envision myself full of life force vitality. Free of dis-ease, full of energy, and happy”. I still have that piece of paper, it’s about 8 years old. I slowly started to ask my body to take me there. For me, this looked like swimming, riding my bike, and spending time cooking healthy meals. I did what I could manage. Sometimes it wasn’t much, but as time went on, I got stronger and gained more endurance. My body showed up for me.
5. I started trusting my instincts, my abilities, and the way my body showed up for me when I asked it to. I realized I just had to change what I was asking.
