If you're searching for the quick relief and you haven't found it yet, you're unlikely to find it in the future. Unfortunately, the real truth of getting out of pain, especially musculoskeletal pain, is that it takes work and some of that work is uncomfortable.

But you have to be able to challenge your body and stress your body in ways to desensitize it to the pain while also building strength. That's really the only way to get back to functional pain-free living.

And once you get out of pain, you do need to maintain some of what you learned through your rehab. You need to keep challenging your body or at least maintain what you gained, otherwise you go back to everything you were doing before and the pain comes back eventually. It could be years, it could be months, but it will likely come back if you stop doing all the things that helped you get out of it in the first place.

If your rehab stops challenging you, then you're not making any progress and you're wasting your time. Your rehab needs to have progressive overload so that your muscles keep being challenged so they keep getting stronger.

That progressive overload should also include more functional and more complicated movements as you get better and more stable so that you can challenge your body in ways that you're actually going to use it in the real world.

In a lot of cases imaging is completely overrated. It answers the what's wrong but it doesn't tell you the why that's wrong.
If you never figure out why that happened in the first place, the amount of rehab that you do and the results that you get are going to be pretty limited.
There's a better way than injections, surgery, and very basic rehab protocols. You deserve better and you should demand better of your care.

If your ehab isn't focused around your lifestyle goals that you want to do after rehab, you're going to fall short almost every time.
Set your rehab goals around what you want to achieve, and update your goals as you achieve those things throughout the process, and make sure that your practitioner is listening to what you want to do.
Rehab is not a one size fits all. It needs to be individualized to you and the outcomes you want.

Stretch and rest can be great for quick injuries that go away but if it lingers it's probably not going to help you long term.
At that point you need to start addressing capacity and strength issues in those muscle tissues and the surrounding tissues all together.
If you don't know how to do that find somebody that does and if you're in the Kansas City area shoot me a DM.

If you have low back pain stretching and rest probably aren't going to fix it.
The best way to get long-term relief is to actually start strengthening your lower back so it has more capacity and doesn't break down as easily.
These three exercises are a great place to start and easy to do at home with very little equipment.

A chronically tight or painful low back is not usually just a low back problem.
We need to look at how your body moves as a whole and how the tissues that surround your low back and your hips also interact with each other.

If you're tired of dealing with a chronically tight or painful low back and you need some help, comment or DM me PAIN and let's have a chat!
