There are a lot of new friends around here lately so we thought we should reintroduce ourselves with a little history lesson! Thanks for being here and following along with our adventures, progress and FUN out at the barn! ❤️
Heartland Therapy Services began in 2019 as a passion project of owner, Dr. Mary Nestor-Adams, OTD, OTR/L, an original 1990s horse girl. Growing up on a small farm in Peculiar, MO with a younger brother with an intellectual disability, Mary always sought to combine her passions for empowering individuals with disabilities with her love of animals. Mary got the opportunity to grow her specialty in providing hippotherapy (the use of equine movement in a therapy session) during her Doctoral Capstone at Belmont University in Nashville, TN. After moving back to Kansas City, Mary quickly partnered with Heartland Therapeutic Riding to start Heartland Therapy Services which has been providing occupational therapy services to individuals of all ages ever since! As Heartland Therapy Services continues to grow and serve more families, we are so proud to be the only American Hippotherapy Association trained providers of hippotherapy in the Kansas City area. We care deeply about the clients we serve and are passionate about sharing our love and the magic of the barn with you!
