I’m excited to announce that I am now offering mental health assessments for individuals ages 12 and older. Assessments are available for a variety of concerns, including ADHD, Autism, OCD, PTSD, Social Anxiety, Anxiety, and Depression.

This service was developed out of a desire to make evaluations more accessible and to provide individuals with greater insight into their symptoms, helping inform treatment planning and next steps in care.

Please note that these assessments are not considered comprehensive psychological testing, as that is outside the scope of my licensure. Additionally, I am unable to provide the evaluations and diagnoses required for ABA therapy services. If more extensive psychological testing is needed, I am happy to provide referrals to qualified providers.

If you have questions or would like to learn more about the assessment process, please feel free to reach out at [email protected] or on my website www.allicanbellc.com

Jokes and personal experience aside, journaling can be extremely therapeutic. It’s a place to document your inner world, name your emotions, and externalize anxious thoughts. It can also be hard to get started. Sometimes we feel completely blank, sometimes we’re trying to journal “the right way”, and sometimes we don’t know where to start. If you’re struggling, here are some hacks I’ve tried over the years:

- doodling, it can help to just to get your pen moving
- bullet points bc we love efficiency 🙂‍↕️
- write a letter to yourself or someone you have unfinished business with
- thought bubble, put one idea in the center of the page and then add related topics
- start a hate list; write down everything you hate or are mad at (I actually got this from Kate!!)

What are journaling hacks you’ve tried?

Building a secure attachment with your children isn’t just talking about your feelings- it’s understanding how to communicate, what to do when you’re triggered, and holding compassion for yourself as you navigate it all. It’s not always easy but it’s always worth it.

Earning my secure attachment has taught me that it’s actually desirable to not want certain people to like me. It’s more important to me to live my life in accordance to my values, than to be liked by every person I meet. Now just like everything in life, this take is nuanced and I’m not saying just completely disregard other people. But I am saying don’t chase approval from someone you don’t approve of.

When you find your safety in being someone who is likable, being disliked feels terrifying. But the cost of likability is authenticity. Living in alignment with your values might cost you approval of some people but you have the opportunity to gain more confidence and respect for yourself.

I am so thankful for the 2SLGBTQI community for all the love and lived experiences they bring to our world. I am beyond honored to walk with clients on their journey by providing affirmative care and advocacy. Bearing witness to the resiliency and love that my clients, friends, and family exude motivates me to be a better therapist and person. Happy Pride Month!

Healing is a journey not a destination. You might not get to a fixed point of peace and fulfillment because life continues and struggles persist. Rest is essential to healing and finding contentment in the present moment. Give yourself permission to put the mantle of healing down every once in awhile.

Part of my work with neurodivergent and highly sensitive people, is deconstructing the the black-and-white thinking of what is morally good and bad. We find that stressors are actually morally neutral and it’s the meaning we have assigned to them or that has been assigned to them by the people. With this in mind, we can offer ourselves grace and compassion to our capacity and humanity.
