Some kids don’t say, “I’m struggling.” They say it with headaches before school. With tears over small things. With silence at the dinner table.

If you’re in southern Minnesota and something feels off, trust that instinct. You know your child best.

A helpful step is writing down what you’re noticing. When it happens. How often. What changes. Having it on paper can make conversations with a counselor or school partner easier.

At Spero, we meet families where they are and help them sort through what’s normal stress and what might need more support. You don’t have to figure it out alone.

Some mornings start with a stomachache that isn’t about the flu.

In southern Minnesota, we meet a lot of families who know something feels off but aren’t sure what to call it. A child who used to love school now wants to stay home. A teen who talked nonstop now barely says a word.

One small step can help today: set aside ten quiet minutes and ask, “When did this start feeling hard?” Then just listen. No fixing. No lectures. Just space.

At Spero, we walk alongside families as they figure out what comes next. Call to schedule an appointment at (507) 451-2630.

Some days it’s just stress. Other days, it’s something heavier.

You might notice your child withdrawing, a partner snapping over small things, or yourself lying awake long after the house is quiet. In southern Minnesota, we see how often people push through these moments alone.

Tracking changes for two weeks, such as sleep patterns, mood shifts, and major stressors, can reveal patterns that make it easier to decide when support could help.

Recognizing when help matters is not about labeling someone. It’s about paying attention before things feel unmanageable.

Some days, the hardest part is knowing where to start.

If you are supporting a child or teen who seems overwhelmed, withdrawn, or not acting like themselves, pause and begin with one simple step. Ask one open question tonight: “What has felt hardest this week?” Then listen without jumping in to fix it.

At Spero, we walk alongside families across southern Minnesota as they sort through next steps and care options. You do not have to map it out alone.

Call to schedule an appointment at (507) 451-2630

Did you join us and get “On The Move” in May?
Spero challenged our employees to move more in May because we know how important physical activity is for overall health and well-being.

Once again, some of our partner agencies joined us in the challenge and we hit the ground running! Each week, we had anywhere from 185-200 employees from 5 agencies get moving for their physical and mental health. Over the month of May, we had over 50 million steps!

Congratulations to the Mayo Owatonna staff who knocked MN Prairie out of the top spot for our final week with an average of 80,035 steps.

Mayo 80,035
MNPrairie 80,000
SCHA 79,584
Steele County 77,322
OMC 62,397
Spero 51,235

While the May on the Move challenge is done, we encourage everyone to continue to move in whatever way you can for mental and physical well-being.

We know Memorial Day can feel heavy and somber for many.

Today is more than a long weekend—it’s a day of remembrance for the brave men and women who gave their lives in service, and for the families, friends, and communities who continue to carry that loss. 🇺🇸

If today brings grief, reflection, gratitude, or quiet emotions, you are not alone in that.

As we honor those who sacrificed so much, may we also extend compassion to ourselves and to one another. Sometimes the most meaningful thing we can do is simply hold space—for memories, for healing, and for connection.

Wishing you a gentle and meaningful Memorial Day. ❤️
