People often ask what it’s like to follow in my parents’ footsteps.

The truth is, I don’t think about it in the big moments. I think about it in the quiet ones.

It’s the family who hugs us before they leave. The handwritten note that arrives weeks later. The familiar faces who return years after we’ve served someone they loved, simply to say hello.

Those are the moments that remind me why Haley McGinnis has always been more than a funeral home.

Growing up, I watched my parents treat every family with compassion, respect, and genuine kindness. My dad had a remarkable way of making people feel seen. Whether it was a grieving family, a vendor making a delivery, or someone who simply stopped by the funeral home, he gave everyone his time, his patience, and his full attention.

One of the greatest gifts of carrying this legacy forward is hearing the stories people still share about him. They often speak of his kindness, his quiet compassion, and the way he made them feel important. Those conversations remind me that the smallest gestures are often the ones that leave the deepest impression, and they continue to shape the way I strive to serve every family who walks through our doors.

Today, I have the privilege of carrying those values forward alongside an incredible team that shares the same heart for service.

Every family who walks through our doors becomes part of our story, just as they become part of the legacy my parents began years ago.

Those quiet moments… They’re the ones that stay with me.

Grief doesn't have a timeline, and healing looks different for everyone.

Sometimes, a little fresh air can bring a moment of peace. Take a walk through a favorite park, enjoy the sunshine, tend to a garden, or spend time doing an outdoor activity that reminds you of someone you love.

These simple moments can become meaningful ways to honor their memory while caring for yourself.

Remember, you don't have to navigate grief alone. If you or someone you know could benefit from additional grief support or resources, our funeral home is here to help. Please don't hesitate to reach out—we're here for you every step of the way. 🤍

After more than 80 years, Kentucky’s own U.S. Army Pvt. Mike Raymond McDowell is finally coming home.

Every veteran deserves to be remembered, honored, and laid to rest with dignity. Tomorrow, our Commonwealth has the privilege of welcoming home a young soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice during World War II.

If you are able, we encourage you to attend the repatriation service and help ensure this American hero receives the welcome home he never had.

Tomorrow, Kentucky will finally welcome home one of its own.

U.S. Army Pvt. Mike Raymond McDowell was killed in action during World War II while serving with Merrill's Marauders in Burma in 1944. He was 19.

For more than 80 years, he was listed as unaccounted for. Thanks to modern forensic science, his remains were identified earlier this year, and now he'll receive the burial and honors he earned.

🇺🇸 A repatriation service will be held:
📍 Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliff
🗓 Wednesday, July 29
🕥 10:30 a.m.

If you're able, consider attending to help give this Kentucky hero the welcome home he never received.

Gov. Andy Beshear has also ordered flags at state buildings to fly at half-staff in Pvt. McDowell's honor.

Let's make sure this American hero is not laid to rest alone. 🇺🇸
