Justin Michael Utley, 35, of Morganfield, was taken from the world too soon on June 13, 2026. Born on March 22, 1991, in Henderson, Justin brought with him a heart of gold that he shared freely with the world. He could make conversation with anyone and would go out of his way to help someone in need. Justin had the ability to make everyone feel seen, appreciated and loved. He was a proud father, and his boys were the center of his world. He worked hard in the oil fields, a job he “loved to hate”, to provide for and spoil his boys every chance he had.

If Justin wasn't at home, chances were he was on the river in his boat, where he felt most at peace. He had no desire to travel far, content staying close to home and on the water he knew best. He also enjoyed hunting, working on vehicles, loved to cut up and be a little rowdy, and never passed up the chance to have a good time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carolyn Utley, Joe Utley, and Jake Vinson.

Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Lori (Tom) Vinson; father, Lance (Heather) Ricketts; sons, Kayson Michael and Tulson Allen-Sue; siblings, Crew Utley, Trey Vinson, Gavin Ricketts, Lucas Ricketts, Taylor Vinson, Kyle Vinson, and Tyler Hargrove; niece and nephew, Avery Tatum and Jepson Cade; as well as many other loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Patsy "Pat" Barrera, 81, of Owensboro, KY, reunited with her beloved B.Y. Barrera on the evening of June 12, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. She was the revered matriarch of her large family: a beloved mother, grandmother, and GiGi to all who met her. Her wit and wicked sense of humour will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.

Pat was born in Owensboro, on September 24, 1944, to her mother Lilian Beatrice Mayes (stepfather Virgil Mayes) and Elmer Craig (stepmother Barbara Craig). She grew up in Daviess County with her brother and four sisters. Pat graduated from Daviess County High School before earning her nursing degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College.

Pat lived life with a servant's heart, fuelled by her strong Episcopalian faith. She was instrumental in helping the late Dr. Dattatraya Prajapati bring Hospice of Western Kentucky to Owensboro. Pat first learned about hospice care after attending a seminar featuring hospice pioneer Elisabeth Kübler-Ross. Upon returning to Owensboro, Pat insisted to her colleague and friend, Dr. Prajapati that Owensboro needed a hospice care facility. Dr. Prajapati responded, "Tell me what you need, and I'll do it." Pat introduced him to her reverend, Rev. Glendon Coppick of Trinity Episcopal Church, and together with other dedicated church members, they helped champion the effort to bring hospice care to Owensboro, laying the groundwork for what would become The Hospice Association in 1980.

She started her nursing career at Mercy Hospital in Owensboro before moving to Florida, where she worked for DeSoto Memorial Hospital as a risk assessor, case manager, and forensic nurse specialist. Pat ended her profound nursing career by retiring from the state of Florida Department of Health as an epidemiologist.

Pat volunteered her free time with a multitude of organizations benefiting youth and families. She volunteered with the Girl Scouts and took a troop with her to tour Europe. She was the first female Cub Scout leader for the Boy Scouts of America in Daviess County. She was the coach of many tee-ball leagues throughout her years. She worked closely with Catholic Charities in assisting migrant families and refugees find healthcare and volunteered with other outreach efforts serving unhoused and migrant families.

Pat will be remembered most for her devotion to her friends and family. She never met a person she wouldn't help and never had a thought she didn't speak. Those who knew her would say she embodied a sense of found family; if you found her, she was family. She would say she never met a stray she wouldn't keep--pet and person alike.

Pat is preceded in death by her parents, Lilian Beatrice Mayes (Virgil Mayes) and Elmer Craig (Barbara Craig); husband, B.Y. Barrera; close friend, Dr. Dattatraya Prajapati; sister, Nancy Clark; and great-grandson, Logan Westerman.

Pat is survived by her children, Randall Wingfield, Steven Wingfield (Carol), Sherry Westerman (Kenny), Robin Bledsoe (Eric), Robert Storm (Brenna), and Andrew "Biscuit" Barrera; sisters, Linda Mattingly (Clarence), Carol Phillips (Mark), and Betty Jo Polston (Keith); brother, James Craig (Rosemary); aunt, Hattie Hurst; close family friend, Rita Prajapati; nine grandchildren; and 13 great -grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.

At Pat's request, there will not be a visitation or funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her honour to Hospice of Western Kentucky, 3419 Wathen's Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301 or Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana, 2115 Lexington Rd, Louisville, KY 40206.

On June 6, 2026, Rita Larson Houskie passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with COPD. She was surrounded by the love of her children, who remained by her side until the end. She was 73 years old.

Rita was born on August 5, 1952, in Grand Island, Nebraska, and was raised in Lincoln Nebraska. She graduated from Lincoln East High School in 1970 and spent most of her life in Lincoln, Nebraska, before moving to Beaver Dam, Kentucky, where she lived during the final two years of her life.

More than any title or accomplishment, Rita was a devoted mother. After the death of her husband, Joseph Keith "Eric" Houskie, in 1980, she dedicated her life to raising their three children on her own. Through determination, sacrifice, and an unwavering sense of responsibility, she provided for her family while teaching her children the values that guided her own life: honesty, perseverance, loyalty, and practical wisdom.

Over the years, Rita held several jobs while supporting her family, eventually retiring as Executive Administrator for the Central Interstate Low-Level Radioactive Waste Compact Commission. She took pride in her work and was respected for her dedication, organization, and commitment. Rita was a woman of many interests and talents. She was an avid reader who could often be found with a book in hand. She enjoyed scrapbooking, crocheting, knitting, needlepoint, camping, music, and watching her favorite soap operas. She played the guitar and loved sharing stories from her younger years, including the unforgettable memory of meeting Jerry Garcia before he became famous. She also had a lifelong love for animals, especially the many dogs she welcomed into her home over the years.
Those who knew Rita will remember her as concerned, loving, loyal, supportive, practical, giving, and deeply devoted to those she cared about. She was often the voice of reason within her family and never hesitated to offer life advice—whether it had been requested or not. Her children fondly remember her favorite sayings: "Grin and bear it," "Never lie, especially to yourself," and the family favorite, "Don't tell Grandma."

Rita loved discussing the future and encouraging her children and grandchildren to think about what lay ahead. She believed in facing life's challenges honestly and with determination. Her wisdom, strength, and steady presence became a source of comfort and guidance for many.
Her faith was an important part of her life. She was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church and found strength in Scripture. Among the passages marked in her Bible was Exodus 14:14: "The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still." This verse reflected the quiet faith that sustained her through life's many challenges.

Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Keith "Eric" Houskie, and her parents, William Larson and Doris Nelson Larson.

She is survived by her children, Karma (Joseph) VanFleet, Eric Joseph Houskie, and Rianna (Dwayne) Bishop; her siblings, Jay (Jimmie Jo Ann) Larson and Robin (Brad) Gifford; her stepsister, Susan Wood; her brothers, Justin (Doreen) Larson and Edward Larson; her sister, Valerie Larson; her grandchildren, James Slater, Joel Slater, Meegan Lane, Matthias Bishop, Mykalinn Bishop, and Myles Bishop; her great-grandson, Walker Slater; along with many extended family members, friends, and loved ones.

Rita's life was one of resilience, sacrifice, and unconditional love. She faced hardships with determination, cared deeply for her family, and gave generously of herself throughout her life. While her family grieves her loss, they find comfort in knowing that her lessons, her laughter, her advice, and her love will continue to live on through the generations she helped shape.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date, with details to be announced by the family.

Her legacy is not measured by the years she lived, but by the lives she touched, the family she nurtured, and the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
