Patients should be offered surgical as well as non-surgical treatment options to treat their common skin cancers.
We talk about our lovely patient’s journey with a basal cell cancer diagnosis on the scalp. After a dermatology PA recommended Mohs surgery as her only option and the patient experienced a severe adverse reaction to the numbing agent during the biopsy, our patient decided to research alternative treatments. She discovered IG-SRT (Image-Guided Superficial Radiotherapy) through GentleCure and chose this non-invasive option instead of surgery, finding our dermatology practice easily and quickly, and beginning her first GentleCure treatment.
Mohs surgery is considered the Gold Standard for treating basal cell cancers, but it is not the only treatment that should be discussed with and offered to patients.
As a non-surgical alternative treatment, I always review the risks and benefits associated with our GentleCure (IG-SRT) treatments. GentleCure has several advantages. For example, it has the unique advantage of using High Resolution Image-Guided Ultrasound to measure the width and depth of the skin cancer prior to starting treatment, and it is used to guide the superficial x-rays during treatment. Patients are very comforted watching their tumors shrinking with subsequent sessions. Upon completion of the treatment, the Ultrasound can show the replacement of the treated skin cancer with normal healthy cells on the monitor. GentleCure is a remarkably well-tolerated treatment, and is virtually painless, with no needles, no cutting, no bleeding and no scarring. The procedure is also relatively quick to administer per visit with the actual ontime for the superfical radiation taking typically less than a minute. Furthermore, GentleCure (IG-SRT) is suitable for patients with contraindications for surgery (such as hypersensitivity reactions to local anesthetics, severe cardiac disease, or coagulopathy or those who simply prefer not to undergo surgical procedures to avoid the associated risks, pain and scarring, or just don’t want to go under the knife. GentleCure has a 99.7% cure rate & typically covered by most insurances.
