Before you say you can’t make a living working with horses, read this first.
I hear this all the time. “I wish I could work with horses but you can’t make real money doing it.”
I want to challenge that, because I’ve seen too many talented, dedicated people talk themselves out of a career they would have loved, based on an assumption that just is not true.
Equine bodywork practitioners make real money. They build client bases with retention. They create businesses that fit their lives instead of the other way around. And in most markets, they’re not competing with a dozen others, they’re filling a genuine gap.
The ceiling on what you can build in this field is higher than you think, and the barrier to entry is lower than most horse careers.

Meet Jessica! My 3rd graduate of the Freely Forward Equine Bodywork Certification! A bit about Jess, in her own words-
I’m Jessica Jurica, owner of Bloom & Balance Equine Bodywork, serving horses and their people throughout Blacksburg and surrounding Southwest Virginia communities.

My approach to equine bodywork is individualized and centered on listening to the whole horse. I have a special interest in working with sensitive, shy, and guarded horses, creating sessions where each horse can feel safe, heard, and supported.

My own horse, Daisy, is the inspiration behind Bloom & Balance. Learning to listen more closely to what she was communicating through her body led me to Freely Forward Bodywork and ultimately shaped the way I approach every horse I work with today.

Every horse has a story to tell. I’m grateful to be part of it.

The horse who can’t stand still is telling you something.

Before you get into more advanced bodywork, try this rocking technique. It stimulates the vestibular system in the inner ear, which activates the parasympathetic response. Think about why a rocking chair settles a person, or why a mom rocks her baby. You’re not convincing the horse to relax, you’re giving their body a familiar signal that it is actually safe to.

It isn’t just for the anxious ones. Some of the most locked up horses I see aren’t spooky at all, they’re just braced from poll to tail and holding a pattern their nervous system forgot how to release. Rocking interrupts that.

My favorite spot is the back. Put the pads of your fingers in the divot along the spine, then rock your own body slowly and let the movement travel into them. Start gentler than you think you need to. If they soften and ask for more, give them more.

This is what I mean when I say you can help horses right now. It comes down to your hands and your willingness to let the horse lead. Everything else builds from there.

Meet Jordan Sater, My Second Graduate! ✨

I am proud to introduce Jordan Sater of Second Flight Equine, my second graduate of the Freely Forward Equine Bodywork Certifiation. A little personal story - on my first day of the very first certification clinic I taught, Jordan got there before anyone else. I was incredibly, incredibly nervous and running around frantically, and said something to her along the lines of “...I just want to do a really good job for you guys” to which she responded “we’re all here to learn, and we’re going to learn together”. That moment of kindness took a huge weight off my shoulders, and I’ve always been so thankful to her for it. I’ve admired her hard work in completing the program, as she balanced it with a full time job and owning horses, but still graduated at her second clinic with flying colors. She’s exactly the kind of horsewoman I created this program for - hard working, intelligent, and passionate about helping horses through bodywork.
