I'm very excited to announce that Noga Zerubavel, Ph.D. and I will be conducting a clinical workshop at the upcoming meeting of the World Confederation of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies in San Francisco on Friday, June 26th. If you are at the conference please join our In-Congress Workshop #17, Integrating Mindfulness with Clinical Precision: Strategic Practice Selection in CBT. We will be presenting some ideas from our recently published book, and offering a discount for those who want to order the book prior to July 30th (see below for online coupon code). Hope to see some of you there!

Rebecca Traister is naming a pattern that masquerades as respect.
Endurance is treated as virtue when institutions are unwilling to change. Women are applauded
for surviving conditions that should never be normalized. Persistence becomes the substitute for
reform. Praise replaces responsibility.
This framing is not accidental.
Celebrating endurance shifts attention away from the source of strain. If women can withstand
imbalance, the system avoids examining why the imbalance exists. Strength becomes an
expectation. Relief becomes optional.
Traister’s observation exposes the trade.
Endurance is individual. Change is structural. Applauding the former often delays the latter. It
allows inequity to continue under the banner of resilience.
The cost accumulates quietly.
Burnout is individualized. Frustration is reframed as impatience. Calls for reform are dismissed
as ingratitude. Meanwhile, the conditions that demand endurance remain intact.
What Traister insists on is recalibration.
Women do not need more praise for surviving broken systems. They need those systems to
stop breaking them. Recognition without reform is not progress. It is management.
The quote endures because it shifts the moral focus.
The question is no longer how much women can endure. It is why endurance has been
demanded in place of change for so long.
