The behind-the-scenes work is in full swing as we get ready for our appearance at the Juneteenth Festival later this month.

We're carefully selecting plants, preparing educational materials, and getting everything ready to share what Nubian Roots is all about. Our goal is simple: helping people reconnect with nature, learn about plant wellness, and discover practical ways to support their health and well-being.

From conversations about wellness and self-care to tips on how to care for begginer friendly plants, we're looking forward to meeting members of the community and celebrating a day that honors freedom, culture, resilience, and growth.

Today was one of those days that reminded me why I’m working so hard.

I put in a full day at my 9 to 5, came home, headed back out for an estate planning notarization appointment, spent time helping a client complete important documents for their family, and then came back home to cook dinner, spend time with my kids, and prepare for an early morning dental appointment before doing it all again tomorrow.

Some days are long. Some days are exhausting.

But I truly love what I do.

Whether it’s helping a family with estate planning documents, providing mobile notary services, coordinating apostilles, offering DNA testing, or bringing STEM education to children, every service I provide is rooted in one thing: helping people.

Building a business while balancing work and family isn’t always easy, but serving my community makes every late night and early morning worth it.

🦠 What Was Hiding on My Hands? 🦠

As part of our Germ Detectives STEM event, I made a handprint on a nutrient agar plate after a trip to the grocery store and let it grow for a few days.

The results were amazing!

What started as invisible microbes became visible colonies growing on the plate. Some colonies appeared smooth and rusty orange in color, while others developed a fuzzy, hairy appearance that is likely mold growth.

One of the biggest lessons from this experiment is that we cannot see most microbes with our eyes. They are everywhere around us, on our hands, on surfaces, and in our environment.

Before anyone gets alarmed, finding microbes on our hands is completely normal. Our skin naturally carries bacteria, and we pick up microorganisms throughout the day from the things we touch. Most are harmless, but it is a great reminder of why proper handwashing is so important.

Science isn't just something that happens in a laboratory. It is happening all around us every day.

The kids at Germ Detectives got to explore these concepts firsthand through hands-on activities, microscopy, germ hunts, and real scientific observations.

What an amazing afternoon at our Germ Detectives STEM Lab! 🦠🔬

A huge THANK YOU to all of the families who came out and spent part of their Saturday exploring science with us.

Today our young scientists learned about bacteria and viruses, viewed real microbes under a microscope, investigated hidden germs around the room, and put their handwashing skills to the test. Most importantly, they asked great questions, made observations, and thought like real scientists.

Seeing the excitement, curiosity, and smiles on their faces is exactly why I started Day With The Scientist.

Thank you for supporting hands-on STEM education in our community and for allowing me to share my love of science with your children.
