Well…here I am again.😜Had a nasty fall onto my knee while trail running 3 weeks ago. Had been able to run with no pain and still can but a trip to the ER yesterday confirmed patellar bursitis and a possible tiny meniscus tear but nothing broken!šŸ™šŸ»I have to follow up with a sports medicine doc to confirm so…no running again!
BUT…what I can do is power hike and continue with strength training!😁
This morning Luna and I went to my old route when I first began training for ultras. I spent hours on these trails learning, exploring and falling in love with the long miles. This sport is really about adapting, PATIENCE, and finding a way to move forward.
Three months to go until Ghost Train! I’m not giving up, just a change in the plan for now…again!!!šŸ™„Focusing on what I can do instead of what I can’t.

6 miles with my sidekick. A little cooler this morning which made it feel amazing!
Sleep is still a challenge and is definitely having an impact on recovery. My body is tired but my mind refuses to stop. Working on it.
Next week is a build week. Continuing to chip away at the miles as October gets closer. These miles with Luna are my favorite!šŸ–¤

One year alcohol free.
This morning Luna joined me for 8 miles and I finished with 18.
Mornings like this make it all worth it! Waking up clear headed with energy and ready for the challenge ahead is something I will never take for granted because a year ago it would have been the opposite.
For me, choosing better mental and overall physical health has been one of the best decisions I’ve made.ā™„ļø

10 miles on the Midtstate trail this morning. The mountain laurel are starting to bloom, Luna enjoyed every water stop and I’m grateful that my foot held up for the whole hike!!😁

Week 5 complete with 2 weeks of a build. These last 2 weeks have been the hardest emotionally while dealing with frustration, sadness and complete exhaustion. Seeing a loved one experience a mental health crisis is one of the scariest things and then dealing with the mental health system which is a complete s**t show is beyond frustrating. Remembering that this is my ā€œwhyā€ helped me to move forward with training and with consistency despite how I was feeling.
Some thoughts on my runs:
-I need more carbs.
-relax
-WTF
-Where is everybody?
-I love being by myself.
-I feel lonely.
-If I run up this hill wouldn’t that defeat the purpose of a low RPE run.
-Are low RPE and recovery runs the same?!??
-I need to start tracking carbs!
-Why am I doing this?
-Lift your feet.
-I am so slow.
-I feel like crap!!!
-It’s so pretty out.
-It’s so much better with Luna.🐾
-What is up with this weather?
-I hate rocks on hills.
-That was a good run. Can’t wait to do it again!😜
Conclusion: work on what I am telling myself, increase carbs, focus on sleep.

End of week 3 of training.
Cold, drizzly morning run with my girl.
Messy, stressful week but still showing up.
Recovery week for me (no strength) which I find is not easy for me.😬
Sleep has been tough so really focusing on trying to get quality sleep.
On to a build week!

Beautiful, bright 4 mile recovery run this morning wrapping up week 2 of ultra training.
Life didn’t make it easy this week. A lot going on with family.
I had to be creative in getting training in including strength with early mornings(which are my usual) and splitting runs just to get them in.
Running is more than just training. It’s how I manage stress, how I calm my mind and how I feel like myself again.
Take care of yourself.
Set a goal, even if it feels a little scary and go get it!!!
