Most kids who struggle with focus aren’t distracted. They’re dysregulated. There’s a difference, and it changes everything about how you help them.
Distraction is a behavior. Dysregulation is a nervous system state. And when a child’s nervous system is stuck in overdrive, no amount of redirection, reward charts, or consequences can override it.
What can help is giving the brain the right input at the right time, light therapy to calm the nervous system combined with fast-reaction exercises that challenge the brain to process and respond simultaneously. When both happen together, the brain starts building the connections it was missing.
