I got a taste of my own medicine the past 2 days. By that I mean the medicine I offer others, the waters’ medicine.
I don’t possess this medicine, but after 8 years of giving sessions, I can say that I am a channel for it. The inner waters of my body attune easily to the outer waters around me.
Most of the time I am the giver, but two days ago I had the opportunity to receive from a master. She had me flying and free from the moment she touched me. It was exhilarating.
And then came after….which was not so exhilarating. Gradually I felt it come on, possession by the water. Two hours after I left the pool I couldn’t get out of bed and I pretty much stayed there for 24 hours, suspended between my human body and I don’t know where. I’d like to say I was lost in the water’s consciousness, but I don’t really know. I can guess in the literal or I can speak in metaphors, which convey a truth closer to the essence of any mystery.
Here is what I learned:
The fever dream doesn’t have to peak for the spell to break. Rest (Ho ‘io kula in fern medicine) will bring us back into the body, not flying. If we do this together, there will be nothing to escape.
I was also given the opportunity to receive kindness, compassion, the space to go through my process without pressure, and a smoothie when I finally emerged.
After 8 years of doing water work and receiving acclaim, I also think my ego identity was getting a little too attached to it. Something new is calling me, and I need to be clear to hear it.
In my mentorship with I am now discovering what my ‘uhane (masculine) wants. I suspect he has a message for me within this process and I’m going slow in order for that to emerge and integrate.
I still love the water, but with some limits and boundaries. Think about it-from a human perspective, un-boundaried water destroys. (From the non-human you could say it creates the chaos that brings new creation.) Water that is channeled can also become stagnant and robbed of vitality-dammed rivers for example. But water that is allowed to find it’s own way, including our internal waters, has the power to unite the masculine & feminine.
