Hey! Just a quick post to tell you about a new light therapy I brought to the clinic. It is the only non-invasive FDA-cleared device with clinically proven evidence of weight loss, fat reduction, and inch loss. It is a light therapy treatment called Invisa-RED™.

I have never offered laser treatments at the clinic, mostly because although we provide aesthetics, our mission statement runs more towards health and wellness than cosmetics. But I saw right away that this technology is different. So I got excited about what it can mean for you and your health goals.

There’s an old performer’s saying, ‘nothing draws a crowd like a crowd.’ And weight loss, wellness, and body image can work much the same, ‘nothing gets results like results.’ Your motivation, willpower, and resolve all increase when you get actual results and see yourself losing inches and pounds.

During clinical trials, patients saw an average of four and a half pounds of fat loss after nine short treatments without the assistance of diet or exercise.

Invisa-red is more a jumpstart than a ‘shortcut’ because it’s not just about losing 10 lbs before your wedding or fitting into the pants in the back of your closet. It’s more about staying motivated to work on your health and body goals and feeling good about your progress. It’s about returning to activities you enjoy and stopping the strain the extra weight is putting on your back and knees.

Invisa-RED uses natural, safe, laser-light energy that stimulates the body’s natural metabolism, causing your body to burn fat for fuel (more than 1500 calories per treatment) and expel waste via sweat, urine, and respiration.

The effects on your metabolic process reduce fat cells and cause a metabolic boost. Your body will continue to burn fat at an increased rate for up to 4 hours after treatment, so weight loss is a natural result of therapy.

Imagine the effect this could have when combined with what you are already doing to get and keep yourself fit and healthy! This could be the tool you need to jumpstart your progress and fight trouble areas that do not improve and steal your motivation.

As always, we are here for you; get in touch to talk about chiropractic treatment or massage or to discuss a treatment program with the invisa-RED. I invite you to come in for a free demo treatment; it takes 15 minutes and we typically see a 1-3 inch reduction in the targeted area.

Today's Tip... A good night's rest.
Most people know that sleep is really important, literally affecting every aspect of life and health. Despite this knowledge, many don’t prioritize sleep and take the steps they need to ensure that they’re getting enough quality sleep. Sleep hygiene is a hot topic these days, and we thought we’d share some of our top tips for getting a good night’s rest.
Time in bed. Make sure you are setting yourself up for success by being in bed for 7 to 9 hours per night. In other words, you can’t sleep for 8 hours if you’re only in bed for 6.
Routine. Work on going to bed and getting up at the same time every day. This includes weekends, which is when many people stay up and sleep later. This actually leads to something called “social jetlag”, which can throw off your circadian rhythms. No wonder Mondays really stink for some people.
Be active. Being physically and mentally active during the day can help you sleep better at night. In general, regular exercise improves sleep quality; however, some may find that intense exercise close to bedtime may have a negative effect on sleep, which can be the result of increased core temperature and/or nervous system activity.
Block blue light in the evening. Arguably one of the biggest factors disrupting circadian rhythms in today’s society is our exposure to blue light, which is ubiquitous in the forms of fluorescent lightbulbs, cell phones, tablets, computer monitors, TV screens, and more. Blue light suppresses melatonin production, delaying feelings of sleepiness and the onset of our nighttime cycle, disrupting circadian rhythms and sleep. Try the following strategies 2 to 3 hours before bed:
• Avoid TV and computer screens
• Use the app f.lux if you must use your computer
• Use a similar app if you must use your smartphone (i.e., Night Shift for iPhones)
• Dim your lights
• Use amber-tinted light bulbs
• Wear amber-tinted glasses
Bright outdoor light in the morning. On the other side of the coin, getting sunlight exposure first thing the morning can have a substantial effect on setting your circadian clock and help you feel more awake during the day. In fact, a lack of sunlight exposure may be even more to blame for circadian disturbances than excess artificial blue light exposure at night.
Blackout your room. At night, make your room as dark as possible, using dark curtains and removing all sources of artificial light.
Chill out. The ideal bedroom temperature range, between 60 and 67 degrees, can help your body naturally cool, which helps facilitate sleep.
Watch what you drink. Research shows that drinking caffeine-containing beverages even 6 hours before bedtime can have important disruptive effects on sleep. Thus, it’s best to cut off caffeine more than 6 hours before bedtime. And while alcohol may help you fall asleep, it disrupts sleep quality and reduces REM sleep in a dose-dependent manner. In other words, the more you drink, the worse you sleep.
Watch what you eat. Obviously, you don’t want to go to bed too hungry or too full. Generally speaking, it’s best to avoid large mixed meals within a couple hours of bedtime. If you need to eat something after that, a small, healthy snack (~150 calories), such as a protein shake, a piece of fruit, or a handful of nuts, can be beneficial for weight management, appetite control, and body composition.
Take a dump. A “brain dump” that is. If you’re the type of person whose wheels start turning uncontrollable as soon as your head hits the pillow, have a notepad handy on your nightstand. Write down ideas, important thoughts, etc. This can help quiet your mind, and you can also take an honest look to see if there’s anything that you HAVE to do at that very moment.

I found this interesting... How to sleep better.
Do you wish your brain had a switch that would turn your mind off at night? With “on the go” schedules we often fall short on solid shut-eye.
Here are 4 simple tips to sleep better and say bye-bye to those sleepless nights…
1. Stick to a Schedule - To sleep like a baby, you must stick to a schedule – like a baby! We really can’t tell you what routine suits you. Go ahead and set your routine according to your own schedule. Fix your sleep and wake-up timings and try sticking to it (No! You can’t skip weekends). This will help anchor your body clock and will rule out the need to even set an alarm in the days to come.
2. Time those workouts or activities - Regular exercising and staying active is an excellent way to improve your sleep. Especially if you do this in the morning, as it can keep you charged throughout the day. However, if you very active in the evenings, try to finish it off at least four hours before bedtime so your body has a chance to wind down and relax.
3. Give yourself a Tech Curfew - It’s difficult, but try to say NO to technology after entering your bedroom! TV’s, cell phones, tablets, laptops – all emit blue light that tricks your body into thinking it’s time to perk up and stay alert. Keep your devices out of your reach when you know it is time to doze off.
4. Relax your Mind - You have turned off the iPad and the TV, now what? How to switch off your mind? Read a book, listen to soft music or do something that soothes your mind and relaxes you just before going to bed. Don’t worry, there will be things to do when you get up.

I thought this was Good Information.
Here's Today's Tip... Water.
Human bodies are made of water. On average, about 70% of the human body is water. So, water is important for keeping us healthy.
How much water should you drink?
It depends. Many factors affect our fluid needs.
The oft-cited guideline of "Drink X glasses of water a day" isn't based on strong evidence. It's one of those things that gets repeated often enough to become "well-known".
The science doesn't actually support a one-size-fits-all "drink rule".
Each person's individual fluid needs will depend on things like:
• Sweating: Obviously this is an important part of exercise. Sweat a lot, and you'll need to replace more fluid (and electrolytes; see below).
• Body size: Smaller adults have a smaller volume and surface area. Thus, they lose relatively less fluid than larger adults via respiration and sweating. (However, children can become dehydrated easily.)
• Climate, humidity, and altitude: Dry, hot climates and/or high altitudes suck fluid away from our bodies faster.
• Salty food: We take in salts from our diets. When this happens, we may retain water or feel thirstier, and want to drink more. (The same is often true of sweet foods.)
• Alcohol: Alcohol makes us lose water at first, and then we often feel dehydrated and thirsty.
• Hormones: If you're a woman of reproductive age, your hormones will change your body water levels throughout your cycle.
• Digestion and excretion: If you're finding it hard to p**p, adding more water will help move things through. And, if you've had diarrhea or vomiting recently, you'll definitely want to replace that lost fluid.
Start with a simple set of daily practices. Work on doing them consistently:
• Drink when you're thirsty, plus a little extra. Have a few extra sips or swigs here and there, just to boost the signal.
• Have a glass of water with your meals. Taking sips of water between bites can slow you down, and help you eat mindfully.
• Help yourself remember to hydrate. Leave a glass by the bathroom or kitchen sink, and have a glass each time you pass by. Or put a water bottle by your workstation.
• If you feel hunger or cravings, try having a glass of water first, to see if what you're feeling is thirst, rather than hunger.
• Include fruits and vegetables in your diet, which also add water.
Simple practices like these can support a habit of drinking water regularly throughout the day. Drinking water regularly every day is the only guideline that most people will need in order to stay hydrating.
Most of the time, there's no need to be fancy or too precise. Find your “sweet spot”. Experiment with your fluid intake and find the water balance that works for you and your needs.

Thought this was interesting.

Here's Today's Tip... Change.
“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.” - Leo Tolstoy
Everything begins with a belief. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Life consists of what a man is thinking about all day.”
Along those lines, what we think determines who we are. And who we are determines what we do.
Our thoughts determine our destiny, and our destiny determines our legacy. As British philosopher James Allen, author of “As a Man Thinketh”, said, You are today where your thoughts have brought you. You will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you.”
People who go to the top think differently than others. Said differently, small thinking is self-limiting. It holds you back from achieving great things. On the other hand, nothing expands possibilities like unleashed thinking.
The good news: We can change the way we think.
Believe it or not, the #1 challenge to making personal changes is your feelings. And you can control your feelings by controlling your thoughts. In other words, you can control your thoughts, and your feelings come from your thoughts.
Unfortunately, because few people control their thinking, they fail to control their lives.
How can you change your thoughts?
• Think big picture. This allows you to see beyond yourself.
• Think focused. This allows you to remove distractions.
• Think creatively. This allows you to get out of your box of limitations.
• Think realistically. This allows you to have a foundation for change.
• Think strategically. This allows you to have a plan for change.
• Think possibilities. This allows you to look for and receive the best.
• Think reflectively. This allows you to gain a true perspective of yourself.
Long story short, what we think informs what we believe, for belief is a byproduct of what we’ve thought about long enough and decided to buy into. Our beliefs inform our expectations, which impact our attitude. Attitude to behavior, behavior to performance, and changing your performance changes your life.
If you followed along there, you see that everything is traced back to our thoughts.
