Today we’re remembering Dolly Parton — not just for the music, but for what she quietly did for medicine.
In April 2020, she gave $1 million to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, creating the Dolly Parton COVID-19 Research Fund. That money helped support the early research behind Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine  — work a Vanderbilt researcher called “critical” to the earliest stages.  Two years later she gave another $1 million for pediatric infectious disease research. 
She raised money for LeConte Medical Center in her home county, which opened with a Dolly Parton Center for Women’s Services  — providing mammograms, breast cancer screening and treatment, and maternity care to Appalachian women who often struggle to access it.  This past February, East Tennessee Children’s Hospital was renamed the Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital in her honor. 
“I just give from my heart,” she once said. 
As a small primary care practice, we see every day what access to care means for a family. Dolly understood that too. Thank you, Dolly. 💛
