You may be wondering - where is Health Lab?

We are located inside of Wayfinder Fitness & Nutrition in Palmer, Alaska! We want our patients to see the hard work that their neighbors and local athletes put into group-based functional fitness classes. Here, you'll see normal people in all walks of life exercising safely at high intensity to improve their health. What’s your favorite injury/concern to treat?
➡️“Knee injuries are my favorite thing to treat due to the considerations we need to take at the ankle, knee, hip and low back. Add on the demand of a heavy pack and things can get a bit spicy in the mountains. ”

What’s your favorite part of being a PT?
➡️“Helping folks get back to the mountains, to work or hobbies, and seeing them do better than prior to their injury.
Also getting to "walk the walk" of a fitness forward lifestyle!”

What "Alaskan" hobbies do you have that help you to stay active?
➡️“Hiking straight uphill, because that's the only direction to go around here... Hunting, fishing, and cross country skiing, too!”

We believe that for us to properly engage and educate our patients, we must practice what we preach. We are constantly incorporating different methods of the Pillars of Health in our own lives. Over the years we've experimented with various diets, foods, sleep tactics, exercise methods, stress management, and education strategies. This means you can trust that we know what it feels like to follow through with these choices in day-to-day situations. If we recommend something, we've likely practiced this ourselves and found benefit. This also means we've made many mistakes, and had times where we are unable to sustain each Pillar to our standard, and we share those experiences too!

We have gained so much in our lives from great mentors and role models. We want to be positive role models for our family, friends, colleagues, and patients!

What’s your favorite injury/concern to treat?
➡️“I enjoy treating young athletes and adults who want to get back to activities that bring them joy! I especially like working with lower body injuries. Playing hockey for my entire youth career and through college, I battled through my fair share of knee, hip and ankle injuries and am passionate about not only getting people to "wellness" but seeing them through to their fitness goals. Whether that be returning to organized sports, weight lifting, running or skiing! ”

What’s your favorite part of being a PT?
➡️“I love seeing people return to the activities or sports that they have been limited in. There is nothing better than having a patient come in and say they were able to hike, run, ski, skate, or play with no pain. Helping people feel strong and confident while having fun doing so is the best part of the job. ”

What "Alaskan" hobbies do you have that help you to stay active?
➡️“I may be biased, but I think we live in the best playground nature has to offer. I love to do anything outside! In the summer, I enjoy hiking and have become obsessed with fly fishing. You can likely find me on the hunt for a big rainbow or dolly. In the winter, I still love to play hockey, as well as downhill and xc ski.”

And to those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice and the families who have endured the loss of our nation's heroes, we thank you!

Dr. Luke and Dr. Kailey took on Murph this morning 💪
Murph is a CrossFit Hero workout that stands as a testament to the legacy of U.S. Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy, who died heroically in the line of duty in Afghanistan on June 28, 2005.
Today, Murph isn't about how fast you can go or how many reps you can do - it's about showing up to honor those we've lost by doing something hard. 🇺🇸
