Rose Award recipient in 2020 ➡️ Jersey College of Nursing at WellSpan Health graduate in 2026 🎓

For nearly 20 years, Kate compassionately cared for patients while putting her dream of becoming a registered nurse on hold.

This month, she crossed the stage and graduated with the inaugural class at Jersey College of Nursing at WellSpan Health — taking the final step toward becoming a registered nurse.

From working full time and raising a family to overcoming a serious health setback during school, Kate's journey is a reminder to pursue your goals no matter the circumstance.

As more than 200 students train through the program today, we're helping grow the next generation of nurses close to home and strengthening care for the communities we serve.

A new era of cancer care for patients in Lewisburg and beyond has begun 💛

WellSpan Medical Oncology & Hematology in Lewisburg began seeing patients this week, expanding access to specialized cancer and blood disorder care.

Led by Dr. Joshua Van Allen, medical oncologist, the team provides personalized diagnosis and treatment close to home, helping to reduce travel and keep patients connected to their support systems.

Services include chemotherapy, biologic and immunotherapy treatments, endocrine therapy, infusion and transfusion services.

We asked Brandy Bailey, a team member at WellSpan York Hospital: What do you find most fascinating about your work?

Her answer was emphatic: “Everything!”

Brandy has been with WellSpan for more than 20 years. She started as a surgical technologist and worked to become a registered nurse. Now, she serves as an operating room clinical educator and has had a front-row seat to the rapid innovation in the field and at WellSpan York Hospital. Those advancements have led to robotic surgeries, shorter lengths of stay and, most importantly, improved outcomes for our patients.

When it comes to the expansion at WellSpan York Hospital, she shared what she wants patients to know:

“In the operating room, we are patient-centered and team-oriented. We each have our own task list, but we Work as One. From our surgeons and nurses, to our surgical technologists, CRNAs, anesthesiologists and so many more — we come together to provide safe and effective care. This concept will not change through the growth of WellSpan York Hospital. It will only increase communication to allow us to continue to perform the most complex cases at a Level 1 Trauma Center!”

A little healthy competition in Lancaster 🏈

While the scoreboard showed an Ephrata victory on Friday night, there was another team working toward a win on both ends of the sidelines.

Our WellSpan athletic trainers and team members were on hand to support student athletes for both teams during the Ephrata High School (Ephrata Area SD) vs. Cocalico High School (Cocalico School District) football game. Their expertise helps ensure athletes receive the care they need before, during and after competition in Lancaster County, and within schools throughout Central Pennsylvania.

Our Ephrata athletic trainers walked away from this game with bragging rights, but both teams won with comprehensive and supportive care from their WellSpan athletic trainers.

Thank you to these health care professionals for helping keep our local athletes healthy and active!

Our WellSpan team members were honored to attend the Lancaster and York County Recovery Days this month. Recovery Day is a celebration of healing, helping to reduce the stigma that often impacts addiction recovery and contributing to healthier communities. Our crews onsite shared resources, education and support with community members throughout the event.

Diane Miller's legacy continues to make a difference. 💜

Last week, the Diane Miller Gift of Hope Fund and Miller Plant Farm presented more than $72,000 to the WellSpan Health Cancer Patient Help Fund, raised through their annual Summer Bash Farm Fresh 5k, Kids Fun Run and year-round support.

Since its creation in 2017, the fund has contributed more than $370,000 to help local cancer patients facing financial hardship during treatment. Every contribution provides hope and assistance to patients and families navigating one of life's most challenging journeys.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make this possible — from each runner, walker and volunteer to the sponsors, donors and supporters. Your generosity helps others when they need it most.

Thank you for carrying on Diane's remarkable legacy of compassion and hope, and thank you to the Miller family for your unwavering support.
