Meningiomas account for 30% of brain tumors and occur almost twice as often in women as in men. In honor of World Brain Tumor Day on June 8, Stanford patient Laxmi shares her experience with meningioma.

A chance eye exam led to an MRI, which ultimately revealed the tumor. Thanks to the stellar care of Dr. Juan Carlos Fernandez-Miranda 🧠 and his team at Stanford, Laxmi underwent surgery to remove a grapefruit-sized tumor.

At , Shanna Selsor presented a national initiative she led through ARANS (Association of Residency Administrators in Neurological Surgery) to develop administrative FTE guidelines for CAST-accredited fellowship programs. The project included a national survey of neurosurgical residency administrators, analysis of fellowship growth and administrative workload, and the development of recommendations to align administrative support with trainee volume. The recommendations were subsequently approved by the SNS Executive Council and CAST Leadership.

Following her presentation, Shanna received the SNS Residency Program Administrators Award in recognition of her leadership and advocacy on behalf of neurosurgical residency administrators nationwide. We are incredibly proud of her contributions to neurosurgical education, program administration, and to have her as part of our Stanford Neurosurgery leadership team!
