PD Resident Dr. Cybil Sierra Stingl (.stingl.md) was recently featured in Grey’s Anatomy () after her wearable free flap monitoring device inspired a storyline in Season 22.

The device uses light to measure changes in heme concentration in soft tissue, with the goal of detecting flap complications earlier and more objectively than current monitoring methods.

During her professional development year, Dr. Stingl joined the Grey’s Anatomy writers’ room as a medical consultant and worked closely with the production team to help shape the episode she was featured in, from script development to filming.

The project remains in its early stages, with future in-vivo studies planned as development continues.
