SPF numbers can be misleading.

SPF 30 blocks about 97% of UVB rays. SPF 50 blocks about 98%. SPF 100 blocks about 99%.

The difference is real, but much smaller than most people think.

No sunscreen blocks 100% of UV radiation, which means you can still develop a tan while wearing sunscreen.

A tan is your skin’s response to UV exposure. While sunscreen reduces damage, tanning is still evidence that UV radiation reached the skin.

The goal is not perfection. The goal is reducing cumulative UV damage that contributes to wrinkles, pigmentation, and skin cancer over time.

Consistency, proper application, and reapplication matter more than chasing the highest SPF number.
