At Prism, we don't make kids “work for” the very things that help them engage, regulate, communicate, and connect.
Special interests are not distractions from communication; they are often the bridge directly to it!
For a child who LOVES the alphabet, we worked on:
• asking for help
• choosing colors
• protesting (“not that one!”) - some of us hate when the colors are mixed!
• concepts like big/little ("Let's find the one under the big pink stone!")
• exploring action words with AAC
…all through letters and activities he already loved.
Instead of working on communication in isolation, we build communication into meaningful, play-based experiences 💙
"...it takes approximately 400 repetitions to create a new synapse in the brain, unless it's done through play, in which case, it takes between 10-20 repetitions." - Dr. Karen Purvis 🚂
