🌿 7 GENTLE WAYS TO SUPPORT YOUR VAGUS NERVE 🌿
Your vagus nerve helps connect your brain with your heart, lungs, and digestive system. It plays an important role in the body’s “rest and digest” response—helping you shift from feeling tense and overwhelmed toward greater calm and regulation.
Supporting your nervous system doesn’t have to be complicated. Begin with one or two of these gentle practices:
1️⃣ SLOW, DEEP BREATHING
Sit comfortably and relax your shoulders. Inhale slowly for 5 seconds, then exhale for 5 seconds. Continue for 2–5 minutes without forcing your breath.
2️⃣ BRIEF COOL-WATER EXPOSURE
Splash your face with cool water or finish your shower with 15–30 seconds of comfortably cool water. Begin gradually and stop if you feel dizzy or unwell.
3️⃣ HUMMING OR SINGING
Choose a comfortable sound, song, prayer, or gentle hum. Continue for 1–3 minutes while allowing your breathing to remain slow and relaxed.
4️⃣ SUPPORT YOUR GUT
Include fiber-rich foods and fermented foods that agree with your body. Increase fiber gradually and drink enough water to support comfortable digestion.
5️⃣ PRACTICE MINDFULNESS
Spend 5–10 minutes in meditation, prayer, grounding, or a gentle body scan. Notice what you feel without judging or trying to change it.
6️⃣ CHOOSE SAFE CONNECTION
Share a hug, hold hands, laugh, talk with someone you trust, or spend meaningful time with supportive people. Healthy connection can help the body feel safer.
7️⃣ MOVE YOUR BODY
Walk, swim, cycle, stretch, or practice yoga or tai chi. Choose movement that feels supportive—not exhausting—and build consistency over time.
✨ YOUR SIMPLE STARTING ROUTINE:
🌬️ Two minutes of slow breathing
🎶 One minute of humming
🚶 Ten minutes of comfortable movement
🤝 One moment of meaningful connection
You don’t need to do everything at once. Choose one or two practices, listen to your body, and build a routine that feels sustainable.
