Your worth was never supposed to be measured by how exhausted you are.

Labor Day was created to honor workers — but somewhere along the way, being overworked became something we started wearing like a badge of honor.

We praise the person who never calls out.
Who answers emails after hours.
Who keeps going when they’re running on empty.
Who says, “I’m fine, just busy.”

But constantly pushing through isn’t always resilience. Sometimes, it’s a nervous system that has forgotten it’s allowed to stop.

So this Labor Day, maybe the reminder isn’t to “make the most” of your day off.

Maybe it’s simply this:

You are allowed to rest before you’ve earned it.
You are allowed to have limits.
And your productivity is not a measure of your worth.

Happy Labor Day. 🤍

YOUR WEEKEND IS NOT A CATCH-UP PERIOD.

If your Saturday routinely becomes the place where you put everything you couldn't squeeze into Monday through Friday…

that's not really rest.

The laundry.
The errands.
The cleaning.
The kids' activities.
The grocery shopping.
The emails you didn't answer.
The work you “just need to finish really quick.”

And suddenly Sunday night arrives and you're wondering why you don't feel refreshed.

Here's your Friday reminder:

Rest doesn't have to be earned by finishing everything first.

Because everything is rarely finished.

Leave something undone this weekend.

Seriously.

Your nervous system might appreciate it more than your to-do list does.

It’s Thursday.

Maybe Monday’s motivation is long gone.

The house is a mess again.
Your patience is thinner.
You’re behind on something.
You’ve eaten takeout more than you planned.
And that beautifully organized week you imagined on Sunday night has gone completely off the rails.

Okay.

You don’t have to rescue the week.

You don’t have to cram five days of expectations into the next 48 hours.

Sometimes the healthiest way to finish a hard week isn’t to push harder.

It’s to ask:

“What can I make easier for myself today?”

That counts, too.

Feeling comfortable in therapy doesn’t always happen because someone says, “This is a safe space.”

For a lot of clients, comfort comes from much smaller things:

Not feeling rushed to tell the whole story.

Knowing silence isn’t awkward.

Being able to laugh, even when the conversation is heavy.

Not having to explain or defend every feeling.

A therapist who remembers the little things.

Being able to say, “I don’t want to talk about that today.”

Not feeling like you have to be the “perfect client.”

And sometimes… a comfortable couch and a therapist who feels like an actual human.

Trust usually isn’t built in one big moment. It’s built through dozens of small interactions that tell your nervous system:

“I can be myself here.”

What’s something a therapist has done (or could do) that helps you feel more comfortable in the room?

Maybe you don't need a fresh start.

September has a way of feeling like a second January.

New school year. New schedules. Back to routines. Fall goals. Time to “get it together.”

But maybe you don't need to reinvent yourself this month.

Maybe you need to notice what's already working.

What needs less of your energy?
What deserves more of it?
What have you been tolerating that you're tired of tolerating?

You don't need a new you for a new month.

You might just need to listen to the current one a little more closely.

You can be functioning and still not be okay.

You can answer emails.
Make dinner.
Go to work.
Take care of everyone.
Laugh at something funny.
Show up on time.

And still feel like you're barely holding yourself together.

We tend to use functioning as evidence that someone is fine.

Sometimes it's just evidence that they've gotten very good at functioning while they're not.

Therapy doesn't require your life to be falling apart.

Sometimes, “I'm keeping up with everything, but I don't feel like myself anymore” is reason enough.

You’ve made it through days you weren’t sure you could handle.

You’ve grown in ways you probably don’t give yourself enough credit for.

And even if things still feel messy, uncertain, or unfinished—you are allowed to be proud of how far you’ve come.

This week, don’t measure your progress by how much you accomplish.

Measure it by the moments you choose yourself, honor your needs, try again, speak kindly to yourself, or simply keep going.

Small steps still move you forward.
