There are some people whose lives become part of our own without us ever truly knowing them. Their songs become attached to Sunday mornings, family gatherings, road trips, childhood memories, and seasons of life we never forget. Our family grew up hearing Dolly's music and watching her movies. We saw her kindness become part of her legacy. At the funeral home, we spend our days surrounded by stories. We are reminded that when a life comes to an end, what remains is not a career, a title, or a collection of possessions. What remains are the lives we touched, the love we gave, the good we did, and the memories we left behind. Dolly understood that. She left behind music, but she also left behind kindness. She left laughter, generosity, faith, and an example of what it looks like to use the gifts God gives you to bless other people. She spoke openly about her love for Jesus and allowed that faith to be seen not only in her words, but in the way she gave to others. We lower our flag to half-staff as a small expression of our love, respect, and gratitude. Dolly Parton, Thank you for your love, light, and care for those around you.
