October is just around the corner, and on The Why with Dr. T, we are leaning in. 🎗️

I am incredibly honored to announce a special 4-part podcast series dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness, made possible by the generous sponsorship of the Orange County, Indiana Department of Health

To kick things off, Episode 1 is profoundly personal. I sat down with Deanna McAllister from Vanished Aesthetics & Wellness to open up about my own breast cancer near-miss. We talk about the fear, the lessons learned, and why proactive health checks are non-negotiable.

This series is leading right up to our big Breast Cancer Awareness Event Hope In Bloom on October 3rd! We want to see our community show up in full force. Mark your calendars, share this post, and let’s get the word out.

September is Su***de Prevention & Awareness Month. 🎗️

At Team Peace, we want to remind you of something that we hope you never forget:
You are special. You are loved. You deserve to be here.

And that is true at any age.

Whether you’re a child who is struggling to put feelings into words, a teenager who feels like nobody understands, a parent who is completely overwhelmed, or an adult who is carrying something heavy behind a smile…you matter to us.

You don’t have to have the right words. You don’t have to have it all figured out. And you don’t have to wait until things feel unbearable to reach out.

Team Peace is here. 🫂

We believe in creating spaces where people feel safe enough to talk, supported enough to ask for help, and reminded that they are never alone.

You belong here.
Your story matters.
Your life matters.
You deserve to be here.

And from all of us at Team Peace, we’re glad you’re here. 🐙🐸🐬💛

In support of National Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, sign up for this walk in Paoli on September 12. Details below.

💜 Hope Begins Here. Registration Opens Today. 💜

September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, and together we have an opportunity to remind every person in our community that they matter, they are loved, and they are never alone.

Today we officially open registration for our “Glad You Got to See Me” Su***de Prevention Awareness Walk on Saturday, September 12, from 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. at the Paoli Community Park.

This walk is more than an event. It’s a chance to honor those we’ve lost, stand beside those who are struggling, support survivors, and create hope for the future. Every step sends a powerful message: it’s okay to ask for help, and together we can save lives.

Join us. Wear your Choose Hope shirt. Bring your family and friends. Let’s fill the park with love, compassion, and the reminder that no one has to face life’s battles alone.

Registration is now open—sign up today and walk with us for hope. 💜

Special thank you to the Lick Creek Band who will be performing that day. Feel free to participate in the walk or bring your lawn chair to listen to the music and support the community.

September is Su***de Prevention Month — a reminder that a simple conversation can make a difference.

Check in on the people you care about. Listen without judgment. Don’t be afraid to ask, “Are you okay?” and, when needed, help connect someone with support.

You don’t have to be a mental health professional to make a difference. Sometimes, simply noticing, listening, and caring can help someone see that they are not alone.

Read more from SICHC therapist Shelby Fleetwood about breaking the stigma and keeping the conversation going.

September Is Su***de Prevention Month September is recognized as National Su***de Prevention Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness, reducing stigma, encouraging conversations about su***de, and reminding people that help is available. Okay, here is ours!

Fair warning before you meet Southern Indiana Community Health Care: SICHC does not understand the concept of “staying in its lane.” It may introduce itself as a rural health center, but five minutes later it will be coordinating prenatal care, managing diabetes, delivering produce to seniors, organizing exercise classes, recruiting physicians, addressing transportation barriers, planting community gardens, integrating behavioral health, and trying to prevent half of Southern Indiana from becoming a healthcare desert.

SICHC has been serving rural communities for more than 50 years, which means it has seen just about everything—and responded to most of it by quietly creating another program. When a hospital closes, SICHC opens two clinics. When pregnant patients need more support, it finds a care coordinator. When people need healthy food, it starts hauling vegetables around. When quality measures need improvement, it develops an entire new program and starts discussing dashboards, PDSA cycles, and ADA accreditation.

Do not casually mention an unmet community need around SICHC unless you are prepared for someone to form a partnership, write a grant, design a pilot program, and begin tracking outcomes by county. And never mistake “community health center” for “small operation.” SICHC has roughly 140 employees, serves about 12,500 patients, and provides care across Orange, Crawford, and Lawrence counties—often while operating with fewer providers, fewer resources, and considerably more determination than seems medically advisable.

In short, SICHC is the organization that keeps asking, “Who is going to take care of this?”—and then, after an uncomfortable silence, sighs and says, “Fine. We will.”
