Last week, NeRHA's Executive Director Jed Hansen testified before the House Committee on Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Technology Modernization's oversight field hearing, “Delivering Quality and Modern Healthcare to Michigan's Veterans and Servicemembers” regarding implementing the External Provider Scheduling (EPS) program in Nebraska.

"EPS helps translate eligibility into access," said Hansen. Veterans may be eligible for community care, but eligibility alone does not create appointments. EPS helps connect veterans, VA schedulers, and community providers through a more coordinated process that can reduce administrative burden, improve scheduling efficiency, and expand access to care."

Each year, the Nebraska Rural Health Association honors individuals and organizations whose leadership, service, and commitment strengthen rural health care across our state. These awards recognize those who step forward to solve problems, build partnerships, improve care, and make their communities stronger.

This year's Emerging Leader in Rural Health recipient is Deborah Doke, Chief Marketing and Development Officer at Syracuse Area Health. Our Outstanding Rural Health Practitioner Award went to Dr. Caleb Schroeder of Nebraska Rural Surgical Associates, LLC in Hastings. The Outstanding Rural Achievement award recipients were Mel McNea interim CEO of Chase County Community Hospital & Clinics and Nancy Jo Hansen, Health Program Manager with the Office of Rural Health, Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
