Abounding Peace Counseling Hi, I'm Mary M Garcia, LIMHP, LPC and I can't wait to meet you. Stepping out and sharing your story can feel scary. You are brave and courageous.

"My mission is to convey love and compassion and connect with you to bring understanding and hope to motivate you toward improved knowledge, health, and wellness”

~Mary M Garcia, LIMHP, LPC I understand this feeling and want you to know it is healthy to reach out. I have faith in the counseling process and the small steps that can lead you to lasting reward and renewed hope that things will and do change. Individuals, couples and families can benefit from therapy for many life situations. Together we will develop a plan to move forward whether it is grief, anxiety, a traumatic event, anger, depression, parenting struggles, premarital, marital, life transitions or other concerns. I hold membership in the American Counseling Association, Nebraska Counseling Association, and the American Association of Christian Counselors to bring you the most current knowledge. My bachelor's degree in Family Science from the University of Nebraska of Lincoln at Omaha has given me a solid foundation to understand family systems. In my twenty years of working with children, adolescents, adults and families I have utilized techniques to aid in parenting and social skills, anger management, coping and relaxation strategies. As I continued to dive deeper in the field I was called for continued study and knowledge to serve individuals, families and couples in a different capacity as a counselor. I began my journey of my master's degree at Grace University and upon its closure I completed it at Crown College. As my mission continues to unfold I am ready and on fire to serve you as a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner and Licensed Professional Counselor. My mission is to convey love and compassion and connect with you to bring understanding and hope to motivate you towards improved knowledge, health and wellness. I am here to hold space for you and truly hear your struggle and how it may be impacting you. I utilize evidence based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy with emphasis on emotion focused and attachment theory. My primary goal is to help you accomplish your goal. Take the first step by calling me to see if I am the right fit for you and/or your family.

Do you need a reset? A break from it all? Even for a few moments?

Me too. As a matter of fact, I think we all do.

Often. Probably many times throughout the day.

Take some time in nature. Listen to the birds, the breeze, see and touch some flowers. Or just turn up your volume and listen to these birds on my outing.

Praying today is good to you. When in doubt or feeling overwhelmed take a nature break.

We won't regret it.

Where do you put your focus?

Do we rush by missing the small beauty in each moment.

Or do we zoom in looking for the treasure right in front of us. Like this brilliant lily or this sweet little frog. 🐸

Let's slow down and look at and for the little glimmers of beauty and discovery in our life and all around us.

Life can feel hurried and overwhelming. Your thoughts and emotions may reflect this, increasing stress and overwhelm.

Practice the pause to slow things down. Listen to nature. Allow the water to carry you to a calmer nervous system—a calmer space to think realistically, notice your emotions, and act in alignment with your values and goals.

Be gentle with yourself. Remembering to pause takes purposeful time and practice.

You're worth it.

Take the time.

Hi, it's official, the first day of spring!!!🌼

So let's embrace it. Embrace love, life, struggle, and joy. Embrace it all. New life emerging from the ground within. New life emerging through buds, blossoms, birth, and growth.

Nature knows what to do. "For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven." (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

Let's follow that lead. Lean into the joy. Praise and worship God in it. Sit with the Lord and listen. Let's heal and be restored in it.

The plants, trees, running water, birds singing, flowers. Bring in all the life, love, and joy and let's just sit for a bit and reset our nervous systems.

Sit in the love.

Yes, let's look around, take it in, and feel the warmth and joy!

Keeping hope is the birthplace of change.

Hope for something new, hope for more realistic thoughts, hope for an ability to pause before responding, hope in being able to sincerely respond in a way that aligns with our most sacred self.

Hope for change in yourself and that change helping to create healthier relationships.

Often we need to lean in to see it, to feel it, and to experience the hope. It is there.

Each time we pause and place purposeful attention to hopeful and true things it matters. Then we begin to slowly open and soften to change.

To healing and restoration.

In my last post, I shared some ideas on how to be mindfully present and embracing moments of rest. Some may wonder, what comes next? Is there more to healing?

The next step requires more attuning and action. Lean in, be curious, and then be ready to engage with that curiosity and take action.

Action steps may look a bit different depending on who you are. Each person is unique. Here are a few ideas to help you engage, grow, and move towards health, wellness, and healing.

Don't stay stuck. Keep growing and healing for yourself and the people you love! You can do this. 🤍

Rest is healthy. Rest is necessary. Embrace it.

Even in the busy moments and seasons seek the pause and carve out rest throughout the day. It only takes a few minutes to become mindfully present.

Start small.

While walking slow down a bit, look around, and fully take in all your senses. While eating mindfully slow down and savor the flavors. While driving take a moment to glance at the clouds or sky. While typing or scrolling relax your shoulders and relax your jaw. Pause to look out the window at nature.

Start small, but start now.

Be curious. Try to remain curious about your feelings, your thoughts, and just notice them, judgement free. It’s all information about how you are reacting to your environment.

Notice, pause, pray, adjust, or relax.

✨Being mindfully present may help you with relaxation, focus, relationships, anxiety, rest, finding peace, and healing.

This time of year can feel heavy. Sometimes, we have to search for the beauty. Yet at other times we remember to look up and there it is.

Whether this season feels warm and comforting or perhaps a little cold, rushed, and challenging, please remember: you matter.

I'm truly grateful for every one of you.

Please take a moment to lean in, pause, and find the beauty and peace. Reflect on how far you've come. Rest, reset, and then keep moving forward - one step at a time. ✨

What does it feel like to start Professional Counseling?

Great question!

It might feel scary or exciting at first to reach out and show up for the first initial session. For another person different feelings or thoughts may come up. That's completely normal.

You show up and decide what we work on. You decide the goals you would like to accomplish. We walk together towards those goals.

It should begin to feel safe in this space. You should feel heard and understood here. This space is held for you during each session. This space is yours to share, express, and work towards healing.

It is not magic or easy but can feel sacred, calming, and healing. It might also at times feel stressful and emotionally hard. Yet we walk together in this space towards healing. You get to lead the way.

The goal is to take the work you are doing inside therapy and transfer it outside of this space. To make it a part of your day to day. This happens one step at a time. As each step and day grows that's when healing can happen.

Healing happens. One purposeful step at a time.
