Parenting is hard. Period.

Solo parenting three kids is hard AF.

I’m sitting alone in a hotel room after dropping my last kid off at college, thinking about what the last 15 years have actually required of me.

The best visual I can give of solo parenting, is imagine climbing a very large, very steep mountain.

Except there’s no one carrying the other backpack.

No one with extra water if you run out.

No one saying, I’ll handle this one—you rest.

No one helping decide which path to take.

And no one standing beside you when you finally reach one of those incredible overlooks to acknowledge how far you’ve come.

So you learn to do that for yourself and be your own best friend.💕

I’ve spent a lot of years just plowing through. Handling the problems. Making the decisions. Taking care of it all.

I’m all the stronger for it and it’s made me who I am today.

But lately I’ve been thinking about something else.

My body has been climbing that mountain with me.

And so have my mitochondria.

I’ve talked a lot about my mitochondrial health this past year. I’ve tested mine and I’ve been actively working on repairing them. I’ve made progress—and I’ve also had setbacks.

Maybe I can’t completely separate what’s happening inside my cells from the life those cells have been carrying me through.

Fifteen years of being the one who handles it all.

The decisions. The worry. The emotional load. The physical load. The constant what’s next?

This isn’t a woe-is-me story.

I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve done and the strength I’ve obtained.

I got three amazingly wonderful kids where they are right now.

I DID IT.❤️

This next chapter isn’t about proving how much more I can handle, it’s about turning some of the energy I’ve spent taking care of everyone else back toward myself.

The mitochondrial rehab continues and my determination
is the strongest yet.

Sometimes we need a pattern interruption so we can come back with fresh perspective and motivation.

I’m so ready for some course correction and recalibration.

Anyone else?

Are you realizing you haven’t made yourself a priority?

I’ve decided that this has been my Summer of Sideways.

It’s been a strange one for sure.

I haven’t gone backwards, but I certainly haven’t moved forward.

This wasn’t a summer of losing progress — it was a summer of getting knocked off my path and getting stuck in a holding pattern I didn’t choose.

Since May, I’ve felt like I’ve been constantly reacting. Two kids needing surgical procedures. Living through a frustrating condo renovation and not having my usual space. Hormone levels still noticeably off-track even with updated methods. And new health issues popping up with my kids that I need to aggressively navigate.

My nervous system has been in reactive mode and I recognize that. There has been no proactive action. No momentum. No goals reached. Just responding to whatever hot potato was thrown in my lap each day.

This summer my workouts became more inconsistent than they’ve been in years. My routines disappeared as each day I couldn’t (or didn’t) prioritize myself. I haven’t had the space for the activities that normally energize me.

My nervous system has basically been bracing for the next thing…it’s been stuck in “react” mode. It’s rather impossible to progress in this state!

But here’s what I keep coming back to: sideways is not backwards. Getting knocked off course by real life isn’t the same as losing your foundation. It’s a detour, not a demolition.

Sideways doesn’t mean starting over.
It means course-correcting.

Our recent family trip to Africa gave me a much-needed reset. I left my computer home. I didn’t respond to emails. The renovation could wait. The lab results could wait. The health problems could wait.

I was present.

Now I’m home and my two college kids are heading back to school next week. I’m on limited time to get them situated.

And then I’m ready to turn the wheel.
Back to movement.
Back to routine.
Back to taking care of my own body and mind.
Back to the things that give me energy and purpose.
A much needed course correction.

Anyone else feel like they had a summer of sideways and is ready to course-correct too?

Hope this helps someone out there who is feeling alone in their thoughts.💛

A few days ago, my 80-year-old mom climbed into a hot air balloon in Kenya and floated over the African countryside with her family.

When we talk about longevity, we tend to go straight to the data and tools…

Biomarkers, HRV, Inflammation levels.
The latest longevity supplement, protocol and “peps”.

And you know I love all of it.

But lately, I’ve been thinking about what longevity actually looks like.

And I think it looks a lot like my mom, Barbara!

At 80, she planned and hosted a family safari in Kenya for her six grandchildren, their mother, me, and one very lucky boyfriend.

This wasn’t exactly a relaxing vacation, as it was full of…

4–5 a.m. wake-ups.
Hours bouncing around in safari vehicles.
Tiny bush planes between camps.
And yes…a hot air balloon ride that ended with a rather awkward sideways landing in the basket. 😂

She did it ALL and what impresses me most isn’t just what her body can still do.

It’s how she lives and her positive mindset.

She plans adventures she can look forward to. She stays fiercely independent. She doesn’t let age dictate what she can or can’t do. And she has an incredible ability not to waste energy worrying about things she can’t control.

I spend a lot of time learning about longevity and biological aging, but watching my mom has reminded me that some of the most powerful longevity tools may be the ones we can’t measure on a lab test or pop a pill for.

Purpose.
Connection.
Independence.
A positive mindset.
And always having something ahead of you that you’re excited about.

On one of our final days in Kenya we visited a Maasai tribal community. A group of elder women surrounded my mom and gave her an intimate blessing. I’d like to think they added a little extra luck toward her reaching 100.

THIS is why I care so much about healthspan. We want to be strong and resilient enough to keep saying YES to the life we still want to live.

Here’s to Barbara — proof of what’s possible at 80 and beyond. 🌈

My family just returned from a safari in Kenya that was such an incredible experience, this short clip is just a minor taste of what we experienced!

Now that I’m back home, it feels almost unreal all the places I’ve been and the sights I’ve seen over the past two weeks.

Will be unpacking my clothes and my thoughts over the next few days. This type of trip gives a lot of perspective and desire for some “resets”.

This trip was planned by my mother in honor of her 80th birthday this year. She is the epitome of what Longevity goals should look like!

If you ever go on such a trip, I can’t recommend enough Micato Safaris who did an incredible job with every detail that went into planning this!

My hopes were high for this new HRT therapy option, and I’m not yet giving up on it. But I was shocked and frustrated with my test results, as I was overly concerned this would have the opposite effect of levels that are TOO high.

Actually I kind of wish I hadn’t seen this before my big trip to Africa, but at least it makes sense of how I’m feeling!

I kept waiting and waiting for increased energy or some brain fog lifting, but that never came.

Now I know why!

I’m truly excited to see how my body and mind will feel once I finally reach an optimal estradiol level. The symptoms I’ve struggled with from low levels are real and I believe this has greatly affected my mood this summer, in particular. 😡

I now am connecting the dots more than ever to what I see in all my mitochondrial and biological age testing.

I truly don’t know why it’s been so hard for me to get optimal and stable estrogen levels. But I’m not giving up!

VERY important to note - no supplement, protocol or “pep” is going to replace what optimal hormones give us. I’ve been trying hard to fill in the gaps and I’ve managed ok, but there’s much room for improvement! 🌈

I’ve spent several hours listening to the recent FDA’s Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee (PCAC) hearings, which has been quite fascinating! They are on YouTube if that interests you too.

If you’ve been wondering what all the buzz has been about, here’s the short version…

The committee met this week to review several peptides and vote on whether they should be recommended for inclusion on the FDA’s proposed 503A Bulks List—an important step in determining which may ultimately be available for compounding through eligible pharmacies.

The committee voted in favor of 6 of the 7 peptides under review.

I’m not listing them all here because I am unclear if any rules have changed this fast with social media posting. Maybe now we can all talk more openly but I’m not chancing it yet!

It’s important to understand that these were advisory committee recommendations—not final FDA decisions. So nothing changes overnight.

One thing became very clear while listening to these hearings…

These peptides aren’t some obscure topic. People are already actively searching for them because they’re looking for additional options to support their health and longevity. And they work.

That means the conversation shouldn’t just be whether they exist—it should also be about helping people understand them, evaluate the evidence honestly, and, when appropriate, access them through safe, regulated medical care.

Regardless of the final regulatory outcome, the growing interest isn’t going away and people will still find and use them.

As someone who has lived through what happens when conventional medicine doesn’t have all the answers….

This little case and my research on this topic isn’t going anywhere. ❤️

My last client report before I take a break and head to Africa!

I love doing these so much because I truly help people connect the dots and learn what they should prioritize.

Will I one day get a test back that isn’t very helpful?

Possibly. But so far that hasn’t happened.

If you are taking a lot of supplements, peps, protocols, etc etc. and feel like you are guessing what you need. You really don’t need to guess if you test.

You were born with your genes and they are never changing.

Save this post and keep following me.

Not taking any new clients before I leave on my trip, but please reach out to me mid-August or comment below and I’ll circle back to you when I return!

No wonder my mitochondria are mad at me.

Seriously.

I’ve been wondering why I suddenly felt like my energy had taken a step backwards.

Earlier this year, I honestly felt like I had turned a corner. I was feeling more like myself again.

Then…Summer happened.

Not because of one huge event.

Just months of living in “react mode.”

Kids needing surgery.

Living in the middle of a remodel.

Unexpected expenses.

Health concerns.

Constant decisions.

Always feeling like there was one more thing that needed my attention.

One day it finally hit me…

Maybe my body isn’t failing me.

Maybe it’s responding exactly the way it’s supposed to.

As someone who spends a lot of time talking about mitochondria, inflammation, and healthy aging, I know our bodies don’t just respond to the supplements we take.

They respond to the life we’re living.

And lately, my life has been asking a lot.

This summer reminded me that resilience isn’t something we build once.

It’s something we have to keep protecting.

I wrote about this in my latest Substack because I have a feeling I’m not the only one who’s been living in survival mode lately.

❤️ If this resonates with you, I’d love to hear from you.

Have you ever had a season where you felt like you were doing “everything right”…but life simply became overwhelming and took you sideways?

The best thing you can do for yourself in midlife is be educated and aware.

Learn about the tools out there.

Follow people who you resonate with and are deep into the research and trying things themselves.

Do not follow just one single person’s viewpoint, as smart as they may be.

It’s harder to take action in the future if you have no knowledge of what is out there that could help you!

I want to know about ALL the things, which is why you see me being proactive and sharing what I share.

I may be 56, but I’m not ok with aging like a “typical” person of this age, in a reactive state going to the doctor for midlife medications.

Follow me and I invite you to come Thursday to learn more.
