If you've had breast implants for about a decade, you've probably heard you're supposed to replace them at ten years.

That's not quite how it works.

Implants don't come with an expiration date, and there's no rule that says year ten is the year to swap them.

What is true: implants are not meant to last forever, and a lot can change in ten years.

Your body changes.

Your breast tissue changes.

What felt right at 32 may not feel right at 42.

So we treat remove and replace as a conversation, not a countdown.

Patients come to us for this at every stage.

Some notice something different: firmness, a change in shape or position, or discomfort that wasn't there before.

Some are happy with their implants but want a different size, or a softer, more natural result than they chose the first time around.

Some just want a specialist to take a look and tell them where things actually stand.

All of those are good reasons to come in.

One thing worth knowing: for silicone implants, the FDA recommends imaging around five to six years after surgery and then every two to three years, even if nothing feels wrong.
