It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the closure of Solara Vets–Paris.

An after-hours emergency hospital like Solara cannot survive on client awareness alone. The model depends on a strong partnership with the local primary care veterinary community—practices trusting us with their patients when their doors are closed and referring clients to us for overnight, weekend, and holiday emergencies.

Despite repeated efforts to build those relationships, Solara did not receive the level of support or referrals from the surrounding general veterinary practices necessary to make an nights-and-weekends-only emergency hospital sustainable.

We invested heavily in staffing, equipment, billboards, advertising, and community outreach, and our incredible team worked tirelessly to provide high-quality emergency care. Unfortunately, without consistent support and referrals from the local veterinary community, the numbers simply do not work.

We are heartbroken to close our doors, but incredibly proud of the patients we helped, the lives we saved, and the families we were able to serve when they had nowhere else to turn.

Thank you to every client who trusted us with your pet and to our extraordinary team who believed in what we were trying to build. ❤️

🚨 AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE ABOUT EMERGENCY VETERINARY CARE 🐾

We occasionally hear the question: “Why does it cost more at the emergency hospital than at my regular veterinarian?”

It’s an understandable question—but the two types of care simply aren’t comparable.

Your primary care veterinarian is there for your pet during regular business hours. Solara Vets–Paris is here when they’re closed—through the night, on weekends, and on holidays. We maintain a veterinary team and hospital capable of caring for sick and injured animals during the hours when most veterinary practices are dark and unstaffed.

That means when your pet needs monitoring at 2 AM, someone is here. When an emergency happens on Saturday night, we're here. When your family is celebrating a holiday and your pet suddenly becomes critically ill, we're here.

Providing that level of availability costs more. Veterinarians and veterinary professionals who choose to give up nights, weekends, holidays, and time with their own families deserve to be compensated appropriately for working those difficult hours. Staffing an emergency hospital overnight also means maintaining the people, equipment, medications, diagnostics, and resources necessary to respond when a critically ill patient walks through the door.

And there's another important reason we're here.

We are here so your family veterinarian doesn't have to be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The doctors and teams at our local general practices deserve to go home at night, spend weekends with their families, attend their children's activities, celebrate holidays, sleep—and have lives outside of veterinary medicine. Expecting them to remain on call around the clock simply isn't sustainable.

So yes, emergency care will generally cost more than care provided during normal business hours. You're not simply paying for a different time of day. You're paying for immediate access to veterinary professionals and hospital-level care during hours when that care would otherwise not be available.

At Solara Vets–Paris, we're proud to fill that gap for our community and to support the wonderful primary care veterinarians who care for your pets during the day.

According to Chewy (PetMD), costs for Parvo treatment could start around several hundred dollars for outpatient treatment and go up to several thousand dollars for a severe case with hospitalization. On average, expect treatment to cost upward of $5,000.

It’s much more cost-effective to have your dog fully vaccinated than to have them contract parvovirus. A parvo vaccine typically costs $30–$50.

Your puppy requires the full puppy series and your adult dog needs yearly vaccines to be fully protected. Call your vet today!

🚨 PARVO ALERT 🚨

Unfortunately, we're seeing another parvovirus outbreak in our community. This is the third outbreak we've seen this year, with multiple puppies testing positive within just the past week.

Parvovirus is a highly contagious and potentially fatal disease, especially in puppies and unvaccinated dogs. Early recognition and prompt treatment can save lives.

Common signs of Parvo include:
🐾 Vomiting
🐾 Severe diarrhea (often bloody)
🐾 Loss of appetite
🐾 Lethargy or weakness
🐾 Fever or low body temperature
🐾 Dehydration

If your puppy or dog develops any of these signs, seek veterinary care immediately.

💉 The best protection against parvovirus is vaccination. If your dog has not received a parvovirus vaccine within the last 12 months, we encourage you to contact your primary care veterinarian to determine whether your pet is due for an update. Keeping your dog current on core vaccinations is one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of this devastating disease and help protect our community.

Solara Vets–Paris operates after hours from the Lamar Vet Clinic facility, but we are two completely separate veterinary practices.

🏥 Lamar Vet Clinic provides daytime veterinary care.
🌙 Solara Vets–Paris provides after-hours emergency care when Lamar Vet Clinic is closed.
📋 We do not share medical records, and neither practice has access to the other's records.
⏰ When Lamar Vet Clinic closes, Solara Vets opens—and when Solara Vets closes, Lamar Vet Clinic resumes daytime operations.

We are grateful to share a beautiful facility while remaining completely independent practices, working together to ensure pets in our community have access to quality veterinary care both day and night. ❤️🐾

We are open for urgent and emergency cases today! We also have anxiety medication for your pets, if you forgot to get them from your veterinarian. Fireworks can really stress your pets out, so giving them some mild anti-anxiety meds, before the fireworks start, is recommended!
