Here in this second clip from last month's "Thrive On Tuesdays" seminar, I discuss the impact diet has on an individual's likelihood of stroke occurrence. Up to 80% of all strokes are preventable, and diet is widely considered one of the largest modifiable risk factors. In fact, the World Stroke Organization estimates that approximately 35% of the stroke burden is globally attributed to poor dietary habits.
May is designated as National Stroke Awareness Month to raise critical awareness about stroke prevention, warning signs, and treatments. In recognition, my topic for May was curiously titled, "How to Have a Successful Stroke in 12 Simple Steps."
During my presentation, I covered basic stroke facts and statistical data, symptom recognition, types of stroke, how the brain and bodily functions are impacted by stroke, dietary modifications, stroke prevention strategies, and for stroke survivors, tips to avoid a secondary or tertiary occurrence.
Part II will take place at The Dolton Public Library on Tuesday, June 23rd @ 12:00pm and will focus exclusively on exercises for stroke prevention and post-stroke management.
Seating is limited, so secure your spot and register today. Hope to see you there!
