Katherine Fritsch, LLC

Katherine Fritsch, LLC I provide in person and telehealth mental health services to those who live in MN. You can find me at Wellness Matters Mental Health in Park Rapids, MN.

I focus in trauma, addiction, EMDR, and facilitating women's groups. I grew up in the Twin Cities, MN, metro area. My life experiences taught me to learn how to manage all sorts of personal and professional struggles. I learned to work through, not to push through, to gain a purposeful life. I've worked in the for-profit and not-for-profit industries for 18 years. I spent many of those years in ma

nagement and I am aware of the stress "daily grind" caused by fast paced jobs. Now, add work challenges to attenpting to balance a personal life at the same time... I found true stress. I understand the challenge of not feeling "good" and stating "I feel fine." Life stressors can trigger relationship issues, including the relationship with self, dealing with past and current traumatic situations, grief and loss, and the fear of the unknown. Struggles can try to rule our lives. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and a licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) and I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). I firmly believe that as challenging as life is we have the ability to live our best lives. If you need assistance in sorting out your challenges, contact Wellness Matters Health and check out if there is a therapist who can assist you to be your best.

It appears that many of us feel bombarded by current events and social media. It makes sense that past trauma is often triggered by current events that are disturbing, sometimes feel surreal and far out of your control. Take a moment to read the post and recall/learn what you can do to empower you. This post provides some ideas for you. One of my favorite tips is - set a timer on a device and purposely walk away from all devices. Talk about doing something that is in your control! Even 5 minutes off a device means a chance to connect with you. News and technology are important. And can you spare 5 minutes away from news and tech?

Current events can trigger trauma. Trauma echoes are common in times like these, but there are ways to effectively cope.

If you are an adult who is discovering how to manage personal trauma, you know the difficulty and confusion it creates. This is true for children who do do not have the vocabulary to express their emotions. Please take a look at this post.

Emily is one of those people that you are completely aware is genuine from the moment you meet her. Emily is personable and caring. I know that Emily notices, hears, and is truly present with those that spend time with her.

🌟 Meet Emily Pierson, Trauma Therapist! 🌟

June is all about learning more about trauma, healing, and the amazing therapists who help people navigate life's toughest moments. 💙

This week, we're excited to introduce **Emily Pierson**, who has been part of the Wellness Matters team since 2021! Emily is licensed to provide mental health therapy in both Minnesota and Montana and specializes in trauma treatment, including EMDR therapy.

Have you ever noticed that certain memories seem to hit the "replay" button in your brain? 🎬 A smell, place, song, or situation can suddenly bring up strong emotions, anxiety, or stress as if an old experience is happening all over again. That's because trauma can sometimes get "stuck" in the brain, making everyday situations feel bigger, scarier, or more overwhelming than they need to.

That's where EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) comes in. 👀✨ EMDR helps the brain process difficult memories in a healthier way so they no longer have the same emotional punch. Think of it as helping your brain finally file away experiences that have been sitting on the desktop instead of in the proper folder! 📁

Emily completed specialized training in Somatic and Attachment Focused EMDR and has helped many clients work through grief, hurt, fear, embarrassment, anger, and other difficult emotions. Her goal is simple: to help people heal, grow, and reconnect with the best version of themselves. 🌱

If you are managing difficult feelings because you or someone you care about has a terminal diagnosis, please talk. Avoiding or thinking we can spare feelings by not talking about "it".... is incredibly difficult. It may feel like everything is out of our control, but being open with others is something positive you can do.

No one should be alone in dealing with trauma related to receiving and coping with a terminal diagnosis. Where can I turn for help in coping?

If you feel stuck because you are suffering with past experiences, maybe this is the moment to start living in the present and feel connected to life, to your life. If you have unresolved trauma, please take a moment and reach out for support.

Trauma is complex and confusing. Can trauma alter one's sense of time? What other signs of trauma should I recognize?

Acceptance, of course, is a key to coping with traumatic loss. Sometimes we forget that we accepted the loss a day after we accepted the loss. That doesn't seem fair! Sometimes visualizing a boat that is anchored can be a lovely visual when feeling conflicted by trauma. The little boat is safe and set, and yet, we notice the boat has rhythmic movement in this anchored state. Finding our anchor in acceptance, noticing the feelings, connection, and participating in actions that are in our control may help to manage and move forward with the trauma.

How can I tell if I have suffered a traumatic loss. What signs to people exhibit when they have experienced a traumatic loss?

I appreciate the kind words that Wellness Matters is posting/sharing. I feel fortunate to be involved in a mental health clinic and community that encourages personal growth in clinicians fully knowing that this increases the care I and we can provide to incredible clients. Thank you!

Trauma has a sneaky way of showing up uninvited… kind of like that one relative who says, “I’m just stopping by for a minute” and stays for 4 hours. 😅

Do you:
💭 Experience flashbacks?
😳 Startle easily?
🚫 Avoid certain people, places, or situations?
😔 Struggle with feelings of shame, anxiety, or “not being good enough”?

Sometimes our brains hold onto painful memories like a junk drawer that never gets cleaned out. Those unprocessed experiences can keep our nervous system stuck in “fight, flight, or freeze” mode long after the event is over.

That’s where EMDR therapy comes in. 🧠✨
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories in a healthier way so they no longer feel like they’re happening *right now*. Think of it as helping your brain finally file things in the correct folder instead of tossing them all over the mental living room. 📂

Wellness Matters therapist Kat Fritsch specializes in trauma therapy, substance use, relationship building, shame, communication, codependency, and finding hope again. ❤️ EMDR services are available both in-person and through telehealth.

And sometimes? We don’t even realize our current struggles are connected to past trauma.

Stay tuned for next week’s blog post exploring signs of traumatic loss. 💡 The Wednesday blogs for the remainder of May and June will be on the subject of trauma and trauma therapy.

Sure, regret is a natural emotion, and I don't know anyone who wants to feel regret. It is a challenging feeling to manage while in the middle of or even after a divorce is finalized. This is an opportunity to notice self-compassion and discover how to get personal needs met. Perhaps regret can motivate to gain healthy support and show the possibility of personal growth.

What should I do if I regret getting divorced? What if I am still in love with my ex spouse after getting a divorce?
