A California Pharmaceutical company is recalling over 3 million bottles of eye drops distributed nationwide. These eye drops were distributed by companies such as Kroger, Walgreens, H-E-B, CVS, and others. We have never recommended any of these drops to our patients. The reason for this recall is a lack of assurance of sterility in the products.

35 studies found that eating leafy green vegetables are associated with a reduce risk of developing open-angle glaucoma. Dark leafy green vegetables are rich in dietary nitrates; which are converted into nitric oxide. These have been found to benefit the health of the eye.

Nearly 30% Of Americans Surveyed Do Not Know Risk Of Looking At Solar Eclipse Without Proper Eye Protection
This can cause permanent distortions or blind spots in their vision. Study author Nicholas Kman, MD, of the Ohio State University’s College of Medicine said, “We can’t stress enough the importance of proper eye protection.” The risk is large given that “about 32 million Americans live in areas along the path of the total solar eclipse set to occur on April 8,” and many others will travel to see it. Kman said that “people who want to watch the eclipse need to purchase specialized eclipse glasses that comply with the ISO 12312-2 international standard,” or they may “create a pinhole eclipse projector using a cardboard box.”

The FDA “has issued a warning against buying or using South Moon, Rebright and FivFivGo eye drops because of a potential risk of infection.” The FDA “said in an announcement Wednesday that these unapproved copycat products can be easily mistaken for Bausch + Lomb’s Lumify drops, which are approved to ease eye redness.”
The copycats may also “claim to address conditions like glaucoma, which is treated with prescription drugs or surgery, the agency noted.”
