Today on World Environment Day, we’re reminded that caring for our planet and caring for ourselves are deeply connected. 🌎💚

Nature has a powerful impact on mental health. Time spent outdoors, fresh air, sunlight, movement, and connection to green spaces can help reduce stress, support emotional wellbeing, and create moments of calm in our busy lives.

At the same time, many people experience worry, grief, or overwhelm related to environmental changes and the future of our planet. These feelings are real and valid — and they remind us how connected we are to the world around us.

This World Environment Day, we encourage small acts of care for both the environment and your mental wellbeing:
🌿 Take a walk outside
🌿 Spend time away from screens
🌿 Practice mindfulness in nature
🌿 Support causes that matter to you
🌿 Give yourself permission to rest and recharge

Healing happens in connection — to ourselves, to others, and to the world we share.

This Pride Month, we proudly stand with the LGBTQ+ community — not only in celebration, but in solidarity. 🌈

At our practice, we believe that everyone deserves access to affirming, compassionate, and inclusive mental health care. LGBTQ+ individuals continue to face unique challenges that can impact emotional wellbeing, including discrimination, stigma, identity-based trauma, family rejection, and barriers to safe support systems.

Mental health care should be a space where people feel seen, respected, and safe to show up fully as themselves. We are committed to creating that space for every client, regardless of gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation.

Pride is about authenticity, resilience, community, and belonging — all things that deeply matter in mental health and healing. This month and every month, we honor the strength of the LGBTQ+ community and reaffirm our commitment to inclusive care.

You belong here. 💛

A lot of people look fine on the outside while carrying more than anyone can see. They go to work, answer texts, smile in photos, and still feel anxious, exhausted, numb, or alone.

That’s why May Mental Health Awareness Month matters.

Started in 1949 by Mental Health America, this month is about reducing stigma, encouraging honest conversations, and reminding people they don’t have to struggle in silence. The green ribbon has become a symbol of hope, support, and recovery — a simple reminder that no one is alone.

Mental health challenges are more common than many realize. According to NAMI, 1 in 5 U.S. adults lives with some form of mental illness. Stress, burnout, grief, loneliness, financial pressure, and world events continue to affect people of every age.

Awareness matters because stigma keeps people quiet. Fear of judgment often delays support until things feel overwhelming. But help doesn’t have to start with a crisis.

Sometimes support begins with:
• One honest conversation
• One therapy appointment
• One check-in with a friend
• One small step toward help

This month, consider:
💚 Wearing green
💚 Checking in on someone you care about
💚 Sharing trusted mental health resources
💚 Learning warning signs
💚 Prioritizing your own mental health habits

You don’t need perfect words to support someone. Warmth, patience, and listening go a long way.

And if you’ve been carrying more than you let on, let this be your reminder: you do not have to carry it alone.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave individuals who gave their lives in service to our country. ❤️🤍💙

As we spend time with loved ones this weekend, we also recognize that holidays can bring up a wide range of emotions — gratitude, grief, reflection, and remembrance.

Wherever you are emotionally today, give yourself permission to feel it fully and gently.

From all of us at RAFT, we wish you a safe, peaceful, and meaningful Memorial Day.

Meet Sharon, one of our dedicated therapists and clinical supervisor 🌿

Sharon brings a unique blend of compassion, experience, and authenticity to her work. As a trauma-informed clinician, she creates a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients can feel understood and supported—no matter what they’re facing. With experience across a wide range of areas including relationships, substance use, domestic violence, legally involved populations, and personal growth, she meets clients where they are and helps guide meaningful change.

Known for her warm approach and sense of humor, Sharon believes therapy should feel approachable—and even a little light at times. She empowers clients to recognize their own ability to grow, offering guidance, insight, and the occasional gentle nudge along the way.

Sharon earned her Master’s in Mental Health Counseling in 2013 and has since developed a deep passion not only for client care, but also for mentoring emerging therapists. In her role as a clinical supervisor, she’s excited to support the next generation of clinicians while continuing her work with clients.

She integrates a variety of evidence-based approaches tailored to each individual’s needs and offers both in-office and telehealth sessions for adults and couples.

Depression doesn’t look the same for everyone—and for many men and masculine individuals, it often goes unrecognized or misunderstood.

In this blog, our therapist Spencer explores how cultural expectations around masculinity can make it harder to acknowledge and express depression. Instead of showing up as sadness, depression may be masked by anger, risk-taking, or substance use—behaviors that are often more socially “acceptable,” but can lead to deeper disconnection and missed opportunities for support.

Rather than judging these behaviors at face value, Spencer highlights the importance of understanding what may be underneath them. When we shift from labeling reactions as “problems” to exploring their root causes, we create space for more compassionate, effective care.

The blog also emphasizes the role of psychoeducation and individualized treatment—helping people unpack the beliefs they’ve learned about emotions, strength, and vulnerability, and empowering them to decide what actually serves their well-being.

Ultimately, healing starts with awareness, support, and the freedom to redefine what strength really means.

If you or someone you care about is struggling, you don’t have to navigate it alone. Read more at raftcounseling.com/blog

Today we celebrate National Mental Health Provider Appreciation Day 💙

To every therapist, counselor, psychologist, social worker, and mental health professional—thank you. Thank you for holding space, for listening without judgment, and for showing up day after day for people navigating some of life’s hardest moments.

This work isn’t easy. It requires patience, compassion, resilience, and an incredible depth of care. And even when it may not always be seen, the impact you make is real and lasting.

If you’ve ever supported someone through their healing, helped them find hope, or simply reminded them they’re not alone—please know that matters more than words can express.

Today is for you. Take a moment to acknowledge the difference you make. You deserve appreciation, rest, and the same care you so freely give to others.

This week, we proudly celebrate National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week 💚

At our practice, we believe every child deserves to feel seen, heard, and supported. Mental health is just as important as physical health—and early care, compassion, and understanding can make a lifelong difference.

Let’s work together to:
✨ Break the stigma
✨ Encourage open conversations
✨ Support children in building resilience and confidence

To parents, caregivers, teachers, and communities: your presence matters more than you know. And to every child—we see your strength, your courage, and your potential.

If you or a child in your life needs support, we’re here to help.

May is Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month 💛

At RAFT, we honor the strength, resilience, and vulnerability that come with motherhood. While this journey can be filled with love and joy, it can also bring challenges that are often unseen and unspoken.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, disconnected, or not like yourself—you are not alone, and you are not failing. Maternal mental health matters at every stage: pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond.

This month, we’re committed to:
✨ Raising awareness
✨ Breaking the stigma
✨ Supporting moms and families with compassion and care

🌿 We’re also excited to offer The Breathing Room—a supportive workshop designed just for moms. In this space, you’ll practice mindfulness, learn practical coping skills, and take a moment to reconnect with yourself in a judgment-free environment.

You deserve support. You deserve to feel well. And reaching out is a powerful first step.
