This weekend, I had the incredible honor of attending the 2026 Tuba City Native Language Program Association Summer Conference, where royalty, educators, and community members came together to celebrate and promote our Native languages and cultures.

During the conference, I had the opportunity to present my platform, “Advocating for Cultural Resilience Through Community-Based Indigenous Health Education,” and share a CPR demonstration in Navajo. Through this presentation, I discussed the importance of culturally accessible health education and how integrating our Native languages into health resources can improve accessibility for our elders while encouraging younger generations to continue learning and speaking their language.

I was also deeply honored to serve as the conference’s closing keynote speaker. During my address, I spoke about the value of higher education, the importance of developing culturally relevant health resources through the integration of language and culture, and expressed my appreciation for the dedication of both current and former tribal royalty, as well as the chaperones and families whose guidance helps support each titleholder’s journey of service and cultural representation.

Thank you to the Tuba City Native Language Program Association for the opportunity to be part of such an inspiring gathering. It was a privilege to learn from so many passionate advocates and to celebrate the continued preservation of our languages, cultures, and communities.

On July 10 through July 14th I attended the 50th National UNITY conference held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

It was such a great week as youth from all across the nation came to the conference to learn more about leadership and personal development. I loved meeting everyone and learning more about other cultures and sharing some of mine. Some of my highlights from the conference include opening ceremonies, meeting Dallas Goldtooth and Paulina Alexis, and the Taiwan Indigenous Youth Alliance Performance. Culture Night was definitely my favorite event, it was amazing seeing the different cultures presented from around the world. To end was a special presentation from the 4 O’odham sister tribes of Arizona. It was such an honor to sing with our youth leaders and to see everyone come together.

I want to thank UNITY organizers for putting together such a great national conference. It was so much fun and this year I got to reflect back as UNITY 2016 was my first national UNITY which was also held in Oklahoma City! It warmed my heart to see all of our tribal youth take charge and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for them all. Sapo!

Skeg Tas! I wanted to share with you all the events I recently attended. 
 
On June 17, I was invited to dance with the Salt River Traditional Dancers at the Steele Across America event held at the USS Arizona Memorial Gardens. This event features a 21-ft steel beam that was recovered from the World Trade Center and commemorates the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attack. This was a meaningful event as Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community is the only tribal nation to have a stop along the tour route across 21 states.
 
On June 18th, I attended the Na7ive Na7ions 16U Opening Ceremony held at Salt River Fields. Na7ive Na7ions is a baseball showcase for indigenous youth and aims to create a path for indigenous athletes across the country. I had the privilege to sing the national anthem and dance alongside the Salt River Traditional Dancers at the opening ceremony. 
 
On June 19th, I attended the Jr Miss Salt River Pageant held at the Talking Stick Ballroom, where I was asked to serve as the emcee for the evening. I would like to congratulate the newly crowned Jr Miss Salt River 2026-2027 Lanae Medina, 1st Attendant Thaila Silverhorn, and 2nd Attendant Ava Makil! Then, on June 20th, 1st Attendant to Miss Indian Arizona Chloe Eskey and I attended the Miss Salt River Pageant, where I was asked to sing the national anthem. I want to extend a job well done to the outgoing Miss Salt River and Jr. Miss Salt River Court 2025-2026 for representing the SRPMIC with grace and humility. I would also like to congratulate the newly crowned Miss Salt River 2026-2027 Jizelle Juan, 1st Attendant Ella McGilbary, and 2nd Attendant Cherish Vavages. 
 
Thank you Salt River Traditional Dancers for inviting me, as well as the event organizers for Na7ive Na7ions and Steele Across America. I would also like to thank Miss & Jr Miss Salt River for including me in their pageants. It was great to see the talent and beauty of my community’s young women, and I wish them a blessed reign. Sapo!

On Saturday June 14, I attended a Flag Retirement Ceremony held at SRPMIC Veterans Hall where I was asked to sing the national anthem.

June 14th is recognized as Flag Day and it serves as a day to think about what the flag symbolizes for us. Every year a flag retirement ceremony is conducted to honor the flags that can no longer be flown. It was really special to be able to witness such a ceremony and reflect on what values the flag represents. I want to thank SRPMIC Veteran Services for inviting me and giving me a part in their program. It was a great morning spending time with our community’s veterans. Sapo!

On Saturday June 13th, after the Royalty Workshop I attended the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community Day held at Salt River Gym/Community Building where I was asked to give the opening blessing.

SRPMIC Day is an annual event held in my community to celebrate our resilience and appreciation for our history, language, and culture as Onk Akimel O’odham and Xalychidom Piipaash. This event takes place around June 14th to commemorate the executive order that was signed by President Hayes which established our community. It was so much fun as the event hosted a Salt River Spotlight Talent Show, traditional singing and dancing, chicken scratch music, and a cumbia contest!

I want to thank SRPMIC Community Relations Office for inviting me and giving me a part in the program. It was an amazing night celebrating our home with all of our community members. Sapo!

On Thursday June 11, I attended the SRPMIC School & Community Relation’s End of the Year Student Celebration Event, where I was asked to give the opening blessing.

This is an annual event held to honor the students in Salt River who achieved perfect attendance, and who achieved academic excellence (a 3.0 gpa or above), during the school year. I want to thank School & Community Relations for inviting me and giving me a part in this very special day for our community’s students. I had such a fun time celebrating the accomplishments of our students and wish them all a fun and safe summer. Sapo!
