Last weekend was a dream come true.

Sharing space with Viva of Dark Discoveries Tours while she told us spooky stories was the teamwork I’d hoped it would be, and then some. Restful, restorative movement and lil naps really were the perfect match for a yoga class.

On Sunday, the storms couldn’t chase us inside. We moved our outdoor class to the shelter at Ohio River Islands, and had a class that left me feeling refreshed and so happy. Getting to practice outside while it stormed all around us was amazing. I wish I could practice there every time it rains!

We had a really packed weekend with a chair class on Monday. Chose classes are really filling up with students of all ages. I’m so happy for this and I FORGOT to take a class photo. But I assure you, it was so good. We took the class flow from Sunday’s thunderstorm class and converted it to a chair practice, which I love to do! It’s so cool to show how any pose has options. And you can do an entire class flow in a chair!

Thanks to our Weird Flex Family for really and truly showing up for themselves and for each other. It’s such a great feeling knowing our crew is rooting for each other and really growing in their own practices. Thank you feels like such an understatement for every single person who is a part of us.

Thank you also to the amazing Historic Oakland Estate, Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge, and Artsbridge, Inc., for being the best hosts for our family, and to Viva, Amber, Holly, Cheryl, and everyone for the awesome photos, and just being all-around the coolest.

Anything done with love and presence is sacred.

The rules are changing. The tides are turning.

It’s our time to fall madly, deeply in love with ourselves. Right now.

This weekend was full of so many beautiful, brave, and powerful moments.

Sometimes folks get wrapped up in what yoga is…that it should look a certain way, sound a certain way, feel a certain way. That somewhere there’s an authority over us, getting to decide what we, as grown-ass adults should be doing in our sacred practices. In our presence and self-love.

But yoga is about how we’re all connected-even the ones you don’t think are doing it “right”. All of us.

Yoga is about pausing to breathe.

It’s about asking yourself “Does this feel right for my body at this time?” and “If not, what am I even doing?”.

It’s about giving yourself grace when your tree pose “falls over”.

It’s being able to laugh (and swear) at a moment, at yourself, out loud, fully.

It’s about not having to be afraid to show up fully, honest, hurting, messy, imperfect…and getting to be sacred with yourself.

We celebrated the end of Mercury Retrograde this weekend, got ridiculous with disco moves and silly outfits.

We honored nature on Sunday and fully embodied bog witchery. Like, traded trinkets with each other, lit candles, smudged, played in the dirt and water, befriended slugs and other tiny critters, stretched under the canopy of trees, foraged for snacks, the entire bog witch deal.

And every part of it was magic. No lies. It felt like a dream to be a part of. At the beginning of Barbault’s Gate, and the end of Mercury retro. More of this, please.

Thank you SO MUCH to Shannon, Sarah, Jane, Brie, Cindy for the awesome class photos, and to EVERYONE for showing uppp this weekend, and embracing their inner (and outer) Weird Magic.

Magic is inside all of us at all times-even when we don’t believe it. Let’s find more, together.

Last night’s class meant a lot to me, for a lot of reasons.

Such a good turnout for a class where we got to celebrate three of my favorite hyperfixations:

-Shadow Work
-What We Do in the Shadows (TV series and movie)

and of course,
-Weird Yoga!

There was lots to share in this class: “woo woo sh*t”, gut-punching questions that make you think (that’s what shadow work often is), some brief lore about our favorite vampires and familiar, to connect to the questions, and really a lot more.

It can feel so vulnerable to share something you’re so passionate about, hoping you don’t sound too crazy. It can feel spooky to wonder what folks are thinking when you start prattling on about moon water and van van oil, and the shadow work of setting boundaries.

But it’s also vulnerable to show up, to commit to self-care, to decide to be present with yourself and to stay.

We were all SO BRAVE last night. I’m not sure who had the best time, but I know at the end of the night, I felt richer and like we found more folks for our Weird Flex Family.

I can’t get over you guys. I’m in awe of your presence, and I can’t wait to practice with you all, again. Thank you for committing to doing the work (in whatever way that means for you)!

Thank you SO MUCH to The Gateway Healing Center for the use of their gorgeous space for our class! One of the most gorgeous and inviting rooms and buildings, ever.

Thank you extremely much to Shannon for the awesome photos of our space, and to everyone for adding to the vibes! Apologies to Nikki for getting turned into a vampire (please see class photo)!

Up next, we’re learning ways to approach gentle strength training, incorporated into yoga, and practicing tips for helping to avoid injury for hypermobility, by building strength. Friday at Dawghouse Gym in Parkersburg!

Next Sunday, we have a family class at Ohio River Islands Wildlife Refuge in Williamstown. Kiddos encouraged to join us. This class is donation based, all-ages, ALL abilities, and you can bring all of your friends for one donation. Everyone who signs up can make a song request for the playlist.

We’re gonna be working on our breath a bit, so be prepared to blow some bubbles. 🫧

Hope to stretch with y’all again, so soon!

Friday ruled. Sifu Jason gave us a refresher in Tai Chi Sword flow skills, and it’s starting to stick. One step closer to being the cool lady slinging a sword at the park 🤩🗡️

Absolutely love learning and practicing at Shao-Lin Martial Arts Training Center.

Want to catch us on our next adventure? Monday (7/13) at 6pm, in the attic of The Gateway Healing Center (Marietta, OH), we’re tapping into some lighthearted soul searching, themed after our favorite What We Do in the Shadows vampires. Come stretch with us and maybe learn more about your deepest self. 🖤 🦇

I just started , inspired by folks like Daily Rejection , who do consistent self-care and confidence building by trying things that may very well fail.

That seem destined for rejection.

Today, I went to the public pool. By myself. All makeup-less. To relax in the lazy river for an hour, unbothered. I showed up and I was the only person there, except for a crew of lifeguards, and a maintenance team who seemed as confused I was there, as I was.

Look. I’m not a pool person. I can’t really swim, I’m pale af and I didn’t even bring a friend to join me. I even forgot my beach towel. Oops. I just wanted to go in the river and laze. Alone.

You have to walk past all the lifeguards to get to the lazy river-the lifeguards who were just doing their job, and looking perfect at it-to get to the lazy river. I smiled at each of them like a little gauntlet, as I imagined what they were thinking of their weird lil human, at the pool by themselves, on a Friday morning.

I set up my lone beach chair, worked up my nerves, and took off for the river floats.

The lifeguards were…nice. They said hello and I joked with them as I got in the water, and floated away…and I just stayed in, unbothered.

And guess what?

No one gave AF that I was there. Like. No one. Cared. At all.

I went around the lazy river a few times before a family showed up, while I maintained sole ownership of the lazy river for another 40 minutes.

Eventually it started raining, and they closed the pool. And get this: I got a rain check to go back for free, and do it all over again.

Today has been 10/10.

Tonight, I’m bringing a sword to tai chi class, and learning how to look like a chill maniac in the park, doing sword flows. We’re not in the park, tonight (we’re at Shao-Lin Martial Arts Training Center). But we ARE gonna look badass.

Please join me if you like, and bring a (dull) sword or sword-like thingy like a wooden dowel, and we’ll practice together. 🗡️

I know in my gut we won’t fail.

I’ve probably written this a dozen times tonight.

I’m having a hard time getting all of the thoughts and feelings in my head and my heart, out into words and sentences. But I’m hitting send on this one.

Not even five years ago, I felt so broken in my body, that I couldn’t even find the energy to take my dog for a walk around the block, or barely climb my stairs at home.

Now I’m sitting here, thinking about how a friend met me at the park, in the heat, in a thunderstorm, when I wanted to stay home, and we took care of each other, together. We showed up for each other, went for a hike, and stretched together.

I’m sitting here thinking about a room full of folks who showed up to practice chair yoga together (chair yoga is NOT just for seniors, I cannot say this enough). I’m thinking of our new students, who press through their vulnerability and show up anyway. Who push through their bodies feeling like they’re on fire, where it feels so hard to even raise their arms above their heads or raise their knees into high steps.

And I’m thinking of how we continue to do it together, and remind our bodies we are stronger and more awesome than we even know.

I’m thinking of how we as a family can laugh together, and burp together, and just be so real together. Of how we can wear pajamas (or costumes) to class, or our favorite comfy clothes, and yell about how a pose sucks, or feels amazing, or vent about our day without feeling judged.

I’m thinking of how much we’ve had to push back against the ideas that we need to be a certain size, or have an entry-level amount of energy or flexibility, or a certain overly peaceful mindset, or a certain level of obedience to a teacher. It’s all bu****it. All of it. None of that matters. And we have to push through it constantly to just show up.

It’s so brave. I’m so in awe of every single person who’s shown up for themselves through our classes, or anywhere, and said for themselves “I deserve to be here”.

Because you ABSOLUTELY do. At your pace, in your shape, exactly as you are. And I’m SO incredibly glad you’re a part of our family.

Guess who I ran into at The Historic Oakland Estate, this week?

My favorite, Viva, from Dark Discoveries Tours!

She does the coolest scary story and historical tours in the MOV, and we’re teaming up at the end of this month (7/31), for a “Resting Ghost Tour”.

That’s right, join us for a restorative yoga class (it’s like a handful of cozy napping poses in one 90-minute class), and story time with Viva, while we rest! To say I’m pumped for this partnership is an understatement.

Please plan on joining us there!
