Announcing … The WVAAPP Joe Deegan Public Policy Fellowship is a year‑long, stipend‑supported leadership role that builds West Virginia’s addiction, recovery, prevention, and reentry policy capacity through hands‑on legislative tracking, policy analysis, advocacy coordination, and statewide stakeholder engagement. Fellows receive structured mentoring and weekly supervision while producing high‑quality deliverables such as policy briefs, action alerts, legislative updates, and an annual impact report. The fellowship follows a September–August cycle that includes onboarding, Legislative Roundtable planning, intensive legislative‑session work (increased weekly hours), and post‑session evaluation and sustainability planning. Key responsibilities include monitoring SUD and reentry bills, supporting Recovery Advocacy Day, coordinating member mobilization, attending hearings and coalition meetings, and developing a comprehensive Public Policy Portfolio and Fellowship Guidebook. Outcome measures to track legislative outputs, engagement, communications reach, and long‑term indicators such as strengthened advocacy infrastructure and improved workforce visibility will be outlined for the fellow.
