๐Ÿ’™ August is Substance Use Prevention Month!

Prevention starts with awareness, education, and connection. This month, we're highlighting the importance of understanding substance use, recognizing risk factors, supporting healthy choices, and creating communities where people feel empowered to ask for help.

Whether it's having an honest conversation, sharing resources, supporting a loved one, or helping young people build healthy habits, we all have a role in prevention.

Together, we can make a difference and build healthier, stronger communities.

One pill can be deadly.

According to DEA laboratory testing, 7 out of every 10 counterfeit pills seized contain a potentially lethal dose of fentanyl. Many of these pills are made to look like legitimate prescription medications, making them especially dangerous.

The safest choice is to only take medication that has been prescribed to you and obtained from a licensed pharmacy. Awareness and education can save lives.

Important Update for Our Roane County Community

Weโ€™ve received several calls and want to clear up some confusion regarding our Roane County location.

Westbrook Health Services is NOT closing our Roane County location.

We are closing our Our other Westbrook services in Roane County will continue as usual.

Individuals currently participating in our IDD Day Program receive other services and supports through the Title XIX Waiver Program. The closure of Westbrookโ€™s Day Program does not mean those individuals will lose access to their other Title XIX Waiver services.

We are working closely with each individualโ€™s case management team to facilitate referrals and identify other options for day programming to help ensure a smooth transition and continuity of care.

๐Ÿ’™ Prevention starts early.

The majority of adults living with a substance use disorder began using substances during their teen or young adult years. Early substance use can have lasting effects on brain development, decision-making, and overall health.

By fostering open conversations, providing education, and supporting healthy choices, we can help young people build a foundation for a healthier future. Every positive conversation has the power to make a difference.

Our Youth Services & Prevention team recently joined the Wood County Prevention Coalitionโ€™s annual Scavenger Hunt, an event dedicated to bringing youth and families together for a fun and meaningful experience! ๐Ÿ’™

Westbrook was proud to help run the event, provide helpful resources and information to families, and offer a fun craft activity for youth. ๐Ÿ”Ž

With approximately 200 youth in attendance, it was an incredible opportunity to connect with our community and support the important work being done to promote healthy, positive experiences for young people and their families.

A big thank you to the Wood County Prevention Coalition for continuing to bring our community together and for all the hard work they do to support youth and families! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’™
