Someone recently reached out looking for something to use after being in a car accident, and it made me think this was a good time to share a little about my Comfrey Salve.

Comfrey has a long history of topical use for bruises, sprains, strains, sore muscles, and tissue support. Itโ€™s also traditionally known as โ€œknitboneโ€ because of its longstanding connection with supporting bones and connective tissue.

I keep this one simple โ€” organic extra virgin olive oil infused with comfrey leaf and beeswax. This is also up on the website ๐ŸŒฑ

A nice little salve to have on hand for those sore, overworked areas.

A few more extracts coming off the shelf today ๐ŸŒฟ

๐ŸŒพ Milky oat tops โ€” one of my favorites for nourishing and supporting the nervous system, especially during stress, burnout, or depletion.

๐ŸŒฟ Nettles โ€” mineral-rich and nourishing, with a long history of use as a tonic and for seasonal support.

๐ŸŒฑ Neem โ€” a bitter herb that I sometimes use as part of individualized Lyme and co-infection protocols, depending on the person and the overall picture.

๐ŸŒฟ Royal fern โ€” one I reach for in certain cases of low back pain, weakness, and deeper musculoskeletal support. It has a long traditional history of use for the back and spine.

Four very different plants, all with their own place in herbal medicine. I love seeing how different each extract looks once itโ€™s strained and ready to bottle. ๐Ÿ’š

Spent this rainy day putting together some much-needed new shelving, reorganizing my herbal space, straining extracts, and getting them into bottles. ๐ŸŒฟ

Iโ€™m about halfway there, but it already feels so much better having everything together and easier to get to.

Apparently I have a few more extracts than I realized ๐Ÿ˜‚

Not a bad way to spend a rainy Maine dayโ€ฆ herbs, bottles, and a little organized chaos. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐ŸŒฟ

My friend Lisa gifted me all this beautiful corn today! ๐ŸŒฝ๐Ÿ’š

And when you get fresh corn, you donโ€™t just eat the corn โ€” you save the corn silk too.

Corn silk has a long history of traditional herbal use, especially for soothing and supporting the urinary system. It can be used fresh or dried, and prepared as a tea, infusion, or extract.

Iโ€™ll be saving this silk and making an extract and drying it for teas with it instead of tossing it away. I love when food and medicine show up together like this. ๐ŸŒฟ

Stay tuned โ€” Iโ€™ll share the process as I make it.

Straining day at Blue Moon Herbalist ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒ™

Todayโ€™s lineup was milky oats, bidens, astragalus, smilax, and rose.

I love this part of making extracts โ€” after weeks of macerating, you finally get to strain them and see the beautiful colors each plant has given to the finished tincture.

From bright amber and ruby tones to deep, rich greens, every plant is a little different โ€” not just in color, but in its medicinal qualities too. Thatโ€™s one of the things I love most about working with herbs. Each plant has its own gifts.

Small batch, made by hand from start to finish. ๐Ÿ’š

Straining day ๐ŸŒฟ
A few herbal extracts are ready to be pressed and strained today. I love this part of the process โ€” seeing the color thatโ€™s developed and finally separating the finished extract from the plant material.

Small-batch medicine takes time, and every jar has been sitting and extracting for weeks before it gets to this stage.

Iโ€™ll share a little of the straining process later today.

Someone recently asked if I could mail out my intake forms instead of having them fill them out online โ€” and of course I can. ๐ŸŒฟ

Not everyone is comfortable filling out forms on a computer or phone, so if youโ€™d rather have a paper copy mailed to you, just reach out and let me know.

Iโ€™m always happy to make the process a little easier. ๐Ÿ’™
