A natural hairline should never look perfectly straight or identical on both sides.

Every patient has different facial dimensions, patterns of hair loss, and natural asymmetries. In this case, the patient had approximately three quarters of a centimeter more hair loss on the left side, so the design had to be carefully balanced without making both sides look artificially identical.

The treatment plan includes:

• Complete restoration of Zone 1
• Coverage throughout Zone 2
• Increased density in both corners
• Temple angle closure to frame the face
• A customized hairline based on his facial proportions

Why Hairline Placement Is Different for Every Patient

There is no one size fits all approach to designing a hairline. The right placement depends on each patient’s facial proportions, existing hair and long term pattern of hair loss.

For this patient, we measured 14½ centimeters from the chin to the eyebrows. To create equal facial proportions, the hairline was placed approximately 7¼ centimeters above the eyebrows.

This measurement helps establish balance between the upper and lower portions of the face while creating a hairline that looks natural for the individual patient.

We also placed the transplanted hairline behind his existing native hair. If that native hair continues to thin in the future, he will still have a strong, structured hairline framing his face.

Every measurement and graft is planned with both today’s appearance and future hair loss in mind.
