I did a thing today! 47 years ago, at about age 13, when I purchased Stevie Wonder‘s Hotter than July album, I told myself I wanted to get cornbread braids like Stevie.
I’ve been reminding myself about this over my entire lifespan. And yesterday, I just spontaneously decided to pull the trigger and go do it. I’ve been growing my hair out and now it was long enough to do this.
The experience was awesome! I found a local braiding salon filled with West African women doing their Hair Brading magic.
Afterwards, when I went and did my errands, I was getting all sorts of positive connections to people that I encountered… All because my hair was different.
This goes to show you that we are all just a hairstyle away from making connections, meeting new people, and learning about different cultural nuances.
If any of my followers out there have braided care tips, I’d appreciate the coaching! I was told that if I take good care of my braids, they’ll last for up to a month.
Don’t forget to do what your heart tells you to do and always feel free to let your freak flag fly! There’s no one else in the world like you so show up full on.
