When we want healing badly — and most people in this work want it badly — we tend to go in hard. Binge the content, do the long session, journal twice, feel something shift, and then wait for the transformation to follow.

But the nervous system doesn't heal through intensity. It heals through small, repeated experiences of safety.

A two-minute practice done every day can actually be more powerful than a ninety-minute deep dive once a month. Not because the two-minute practice is more meaningful. But because your nervous system learns through rhythm, through familiarity, through gentle repetition. It starts to recognize: this is normal now. This is safe.

The goal isn't one dramatic breakthrough. It's a thousand small moments that quietly, collectively teach your body something new.

If none of your tools have been working, it might not mean the tools are wrong. It might mean your system needs a different pace, a different sequence, or a different level of gentleness than you've been giving it.

And for what it's worth — God isn't rushing you.
Psalm 23 says He leads us beside quiet waters. Not drives us. Not demands. Leads. Gently. Beside still water.
Sometimes the most Christ-centered thing we can do is stop forcing healing to happen on our timeline, and let Him lead us in the pace that our whole self actually needs.

Trying to “fix yourself” might be slowing down your healing.

If you keep thinking…

“Why am I reacting like this?”
“I should be over this.”
“I just need to do better.”

There may be more happening underneath.

Most of us try to fix the reaction first.
The anxiety.
The shutdown.
The overthinking.
The emotional spiral.
The procrastination.

But reactions are often fruit—not the root.

Pulling sour fruit off a tree does not change what the roots are drawing from.

Your nervous system may still be pulling from:
old fear
old pain
old beliefs
old disappointment
old survival patterns

That anxious part may be trying to protect you.
That shut-down part may be trying to prevent overwhelm.
That overthinking part may be trying to keep you from being hurt again.

When we shame those parts…
they often get louder.
Not because you’re failing.
Because something inside still wants to feel safe.

A better question may be:
“What is this part of me afraid would happen?”
“What is it trying to protect?”
“What does it need right now?”

God is not afraid of your inner world.
Jesus meets you with compassion, patience, presence, and truth.
You can learn to meet yourself that way too.

Healing is not always about becoming someone different.
Sometimes it begins by understanding the parts of you that have been working so hard to help you survive.

Save this for the next time you feel frustrated with yourself.

Those internal reactions aren't something to fight; they're a part of you that developed along the way. Get curious about its role: is it trying to protect you? Place a hand on your heart and belly to connect with your gut sense and ask what this part is trying to help. Understanding this can shift everything.
