Your tongue is responsible for a lot more than you think!

Tongue ties occur when the band of tissue connecting the tongue to the floor of the mouth is shorter or tighter than usual.

While many people think of tongue ties solely in terms of speech, their effects can extend far beyond the mouth.

Tongue ties can affect our overall body function and health, contributing to problems like digestive issues, tightness in muscles, and poor posture.

Think you may have a tongue tie? Dm us today!

“Well he’s gaining weight just fine.”
“It’s normal for breastfeeding to be a little painful.”
“Lip and tongue ties don’t impact speech.”

Sound familiar? Too often, moms attempt to discuss these things with providers and it’s dismissed. Moms are left without answers and kiddos continue to struggle. In this case, little man is in our practice 6 years later addressing those very concerns.

While some ties may not cause negative impacts, it’s very true that some CAN. GO WITH YOUR MAMA GUT!! If you think it’s causing an issue- it probably is!

If your kiddos is 3 or older, let’s get you an evaluation! If your kiddo is an infant or young toddler, we can steer you in the direction of one of our local, tongue-tie trained lactation consultants.

When was the last time you thought about the air inside your home?

Dust, pet dander, pollen, mold spores, and everyday airborne particles can build up quietly in the background, especially when air filters aren’t changed regularly.

As a myofunctional therapist, I see how this matters more than people expect. Poor indoor air quality can contribute to nasal congestion, inflammation, and difficulty breathing through the nose - especially in children and adults who already struggle with mouth breathing, snoring, allergies, or sleep-disordered breathing.

This is where something simple can make a noticeable difference: improving your home’s air quality.

A good rule of thumb:

✔️ Check air filters monthly
✔️ Replace every 1–3 months
✔️ Consider air purifiers in bedrooms or main living spaces

Healthy airways = healthier us!

One of the best parts of being a therapist is connecting with other therapists.

This morning, I spent time getting to know a fellow professional. Sharing experiences, learning from one another, and building relationships ultimately helps us better serve those who trust us with their care.

Change ≠ Correction

Thumb sucking is often more than “just a habit.” For many children, it can serve as a source of comfort and sensory regulation.

Orthodontic appliances may help physically stop the behavior, but it doesn’t address why a child is seeking that input in the first place.

Myofunctional therapy looks at the bigger picture- oral function, breathing patterns, muscle coordination, and sensory needs- to help create healthy, long-term correction instead of simply blocking the behavior.
