FORGING READINESS⚓
NMFL Commander Visits NMRTC Patuxent River & Detachment Indian Head!

Rear Adm. Robert Hawkins, Commander of Naval Medical Forces Atlantic (NMFL), launched a multi-site command visit, August 4, starting at NMRTC Detachment Indian Head—which operates under NMRTC Patuxent River!

At Naval Support Facility (NSF) Indian Head, Rear Adm. Hawkins officially cut the ribbon on a modernized Industrial Hygiene headquarters!

After operating out of a temporary trailer for over 30 years, this outstanding team is moving into a fully transformed, $1.06M facility in Building 320—blending 100+ years of base history with top-tier technology to keep our front-line personnel safe and healthy.

Following the ceremony and a tour of the Indian Head clinic, Rear Adm. Hawkins traveled down to NMRTC Patuxent River for a full day of engagements. He met with command leadership, engaged directly with deckplate staff across clinic spaces, presented challenge coins to outstanding team members, and met with command Nurse Corps officers in his role as Director of the Navy Nurse Corps!

Readiness starts with prevention and leadership on the deckplate—and this visit highlights our strong commitment to supporting our Sailors, staff, and mission across all command locations!

WARRIOR WEDNESDAYS - Where Clinic Care Meets Tactical Trauma

Operating at the intersection of daily healthcare and battlefield readiness, the Navy Medicine personnel at Patuxent River execute a vital dual mission every day. Under the Defense Health Agency (DHA) banner, Naval Health Clinic Patuxent River delivers daily ambulatory beneficiary care to our active duty personnel, retirees, and military families. Simultaneously, operating as Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command (NMRTC) Patuxent River, our personnel maintain a highly capable state of deployable readiness, prepared to deliver life-saving combat casualty care at a moment's notice.

Balancing these two critical missions requires deliberate, focused effort. That is why, since the beginning of this year, the command has heavily intensified the operational readiness.

Through the highly structured "Warrior Wednesday" training, the command consistently trains on tactical trauma skills. By simulating high-pressure, expeditionary scenarios the hospital corpsmen can seamlessly transition from administrative patient care to saving lives on the battlefield.

We don't just care for the fleet—we are ready to deploy with them.
