**WE'RE A FUNERAL HOME. BUT WE DON'T WANT TO FEEL LIKE ONE.**

Okay, hear us out. 😂

We know what people picture when they think of a funeral home. Quiet hallways. Stiff furniture. Everyone whispering. That uncomfortable feeling of not knowing what you're supposed to do or say. And while we take what we do very seriously, we don't believe families should have to feel uncomfortable while they're here.

We want you to grab a cup of coffee. We want your kids to feel welcome. We want you to sit together, tell stories, share memories, and yes, even laugh. And we want you to feel like you're talking to real people, not someone reading from a script.

Since B.J. and I have come to Den Herder Funeral Home, we've been slowly working to make the funeral home reflect who we are and how we believe families should be cared for.

Is every room updated? Nope. We're getting there. One project at a time. (Because apparently renovations don't happen overnight. Who knew? 😂) But what matters most to us isn't the furniture, the paint, or the decorations.

It's how you feel when you're here.

One of the greatest compliments we receive is when someone tells us how relaxed and welcome they felt while visiting. Because at the end of the day, that's exactly what we want. A place where you feel comfortable. Where your family feels cared for. And where you can just be yourself.

🤍We are excited to share some news from Den Herder Funeral Home! 🤍

Beginning in early October, our administrator, Nicole Den Herder, will officially begin her funeral director apprenticeship under the supervision of B.J. Den Herder.

Since joining Den Herder Funeral Home in 2021, Nicole has worked largely behind the scenes—helping families with arrangements, writing obituaries, preparing service materials, completing paperwork, and coordinating many of the details that go into caring for each family we serve.

Her apprenticeship will allow her to take an even more active role in working directly with families.

“I’m really excited for this next step. What I’m looking forward to most is spending more time with families and helping them create services that feel personal and truly reflect the person they love. Every life has a story, and I want to help families find meaningful ways to tell it.”

Another area Nicole hopes to focus on is prearrangement planning. We know talking about funeral wishes isn’t always easy, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming—or even mean that you’re ready to make every decision today. Sometimes it simply starts with a conversation.

“My hope is to make prearranging feel comfortable and helpful. Giving your family an idea of what you would want can take so many difficult decisions off their shoulders later. Whether someone wants to completely prearrange or just sit down, ask questions and learn about their options, I’d love to be that person they can talk to.”

For more than a century, Den Herder Funeral Home has been honored to serve families in Paulding and our surrounding communities. As funeral service continues to change, we want to continue growing with it while holding onto what has always mattered most—taking care of families.
