🦴 Protect Your Bones: When Should You Get a Bone Density Test?
Did you know that bone loss can happen silently, without pain or obvious symptoms? A bone density test (DEXA scan) is a simple, noninvasive test that helps determine whether your bones are strong or if you may be at risk for osteoporosis and fractures.
🌸 Why is bone health especially important for women?
As estrogen levels decline during and after menopause, women can experience an accelerated loss of bone density.
Talk with your healthcare provider about bone density screening if you:
• Are 65 or older
• Are postmenopausal and have risk factors for osteoporosis
• Have a history of fractures
• Have a family history of osteoporosis or hip fractures
• Have certain medical conditions or take medications that can weaken bones
💪 Strong bones are part of healthy aging! Adequate calcium and vitamin D, weight-bearing exercise, avoiding to***co, and limiting excessive alcohol can all support bone health.
Don’t wait for a fracture to find out how healthy your bones are. Talk with your gynecology provider about whether a bone density test is right for you. 💗
