Poteet Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc.

Poteet Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. At Poteet's, we pride ourselves on "Celebrating A Life", providing quality products and dignified service at an affordable cost.

Since 1921, Poteet Funeral Home has been serving the Pawnee area with compassion and respect. Our deep roots in the community are a source of pride, as we grow side by side with the families we serve. On January 1, 2015 our ownership changed as Donald and Rheadon Poteet retired and the funeral home is now under the ownership of Poteet Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc.; principals are Brian

Torres and Gene Black, both associated with the Chapman-Black Funeral Home in Cleveland. The history of the two Pawnee County Funeral Homes are nearly a mirror image as each was started in the early 1920's by grandparents of Donald Poteet and Gene Black, respectively and have continued under family ownership for over ninety years. We hope you will consider us your source for compassionate care and exemplary service. Our pledge is to help you honor your loved one in a meaningful way, offering thoughtful guidance and personal attention to every detail.

🕊️ Remembering Dolly Parton 🕊️
Today, we pause to remember a truly extraordinary woman whose voice, generosity, and remarkable spirit touched generations.
Dolly Parton was more than a beloved singer and songwriter. She was a storyteller, philanthropist, author, actress, and devoted advocate for literacy and children. Through her music and her kindness, she reminded us of the beauty found in simple things: family, faith, love, laughter, and helping others.
Her songs became part of the soundtrack of countless lives—from moments of joy and celebration to times when a familiar melody brought comfort during grief and loss.
Dolly’s legacy will live on not only through the music she created, but through the countless lives she inspired and the good she put into the world.
As we remember her, may we carry forward one of the greatest gifts she shared with us: the importance of being kind, giving generously, and never being afraid to be exactly who you are.
💐 May her memory continue to be a blessing to all who loved her and her music.
“Find out who you are and do it on purpose.” — Dolly Parton

In the funeral profession, a celebrant is a non-clergy professional that conducts formal memorials or celebration of life services. They are dedicated to conduct meaningful services that honor and remember a life lived. They can do so without linking to religious affiliation or beliefs, or include the deceased beliefs as requested. The message of their service includes unique sharing of how the deceased lived their life, their personality and values, and even memories from family and friends. Not only do they perform the funeral service, they actually plan and oversee all funeral proceedings. A funeral celebrant is there to help you decide on any and all details as you are arranging the funeral.

This is a good question to ask. We like to be upfront about embalming. Embalming is not required by law, except in a few special circumstances. In nearly all cases, you do not have to embalm. Contact us if you have specific questions about this or other topics. We are always striving for honest and open communication on all things funeral related.

“Grief is not a disorder, a disease or a sign of weakness. It is an emotional, physical and spiritual necessity, the price you pay for love. The only cure for grief is to grieve.” - Earl Grollman
What emotions do you feel from your grief? Don’t let anyone lead you to think that there is a timeline or any organization to grief. Sometimes grief feels like fear, other times like anxiety, many times sadness, and even it feels like bittersweet moments in the present.
